Wow! Maureen Dowd is incredibly sexy...
When she was on TDS last night I thought she was going to be a frumpy Helen Thomas clone, but DAMN! Does anyone know how old she is? She said she's been writing columns for 25 years, but she looks GOOD!

DAMN!

I always like to say that women look like their ages, unless they have led very hard or privileged lives ( i.e. extra botox, etc.)

But the only reason I made such superficial comments about her in the first place is that she's such a superficial person.

39. I know al
but I think women have a history of being seen that way that predates the more recent events.. ( well if you exclude slavery and the Feudal system ) oh, well, guess I'm on the wrong turf here.

It is just that women have tended to have a different standard applied to them than guys throughout history at least in terms of visual beauty ( generally). If you look at the tone of some of the "she's so hot" posts, there seems to be a different perspective. Although I admit that there are those same posts about guys, but not nearly as many of them.

and generally, I don't get totally offended by them, but I do like to yank you guys chains about it a bit, in my devil's advocate sort of way...

Teresa's a good example. :9

But there's generally no good reason to judge women (or men either, for that matter) by their looks. Maureen Dowd is fair game, however, because she is so judgmental herself, and because looks are one of her main criteria.

20. My husband has met her several times
...when he was living in NYC, a good friend of his had lots of parties that many journalists would attend and he said that the coy, little-girl thing is her usual way, it seems. He said that it looked last night like she'd recently had a fair amount of "work" done. But she does the Marilyn Monroe coquette act all the time. It's her "persona".

Too bad that so many smart women feel they have to act like ditzes so men don't get threatened.

after all, it's still a man's world, no? I don't condone women acting like that, but I don't condemn it either. Sometimes, women are just coquettish... and it IS their persona to be that way. I've gotten ahead quite well without all that crap, but don't get me started on all the ways I've been prevented from getting ahead because of my "persona"... Maybe I never tried it, because I absolutely enjoy threatening men.

I have flirted with a male boss or two, but I could usually tell where the line was. But I have also called male bosses and co-workers ( and females, too) on what I perceived as sexist or inappropriate comments. I think that work-places now are much more sensitized to the effects of certain types of comments.

56. Source of "Bridal Registry" stories
She criticized the Clintons for all the non-scandals just as snarkily as she criticizes AWOL for--well, sending a thousand soldiers to their deaths for no reason.

A total Heather. One thing to remember about Heathers--and those of you who had to deal with them in Jr. High know what I'm talking about--you can NEVER trust them. They will pretend to be with you for a while, but they'll turn on you as soon as it's KEWEL to do so.

She was the one who invented the whole "Hillary Clinton filled out a registry of gifts she wanted from supporters when she left the White House" crap. She dumped on the Clintons every chance she could get. She and her ilk--for dumping on Gore--are just as responsible for getting us stuck with AWOL as Nader and the Supremes, as far as I'm concerned.

Until and unless she owns up to her crap (and admits a bj ISN'T quite as deserving of scorn as a 4-year murder spree) and apologizes, I have no use for her on The Daily Show or anywhere else.

for her age. I'll say that as a 23 year old male.

Also, while I found a few comments of hers somewhat amusing (calling Cheney mad and that thing about Tom Friedman and daquieries), there is this elitest, ditsy, and extremely superficial aura around her.

Her articles are pointless, irrelevant drivel. She has little to say in her columns but writes a lot anyways -- kinda like Friedman in that sense.
