Any Du'ers going to Little Steven's Fest in NYC this Saturday???
Yes, I posted on this a few weeks ago, but it's sort of at the top of my mind right now...

Now that it's almost here, I'm a freakin'!!! Iggy & the Stooges, the reformed NY Dolls, the PRETTY THINGS (?!), and 30+ other acts...should be a blast...I'm also looking forward to seeing two of my favorite live bands from the 80's, The Cynics, & the Lyres.

Looks like they're modelling this after Alan Freed's Rock & Roll shows...until 4pm, all bands are only playing 10-15 minutes, then up to 20, and the headliners are at 35 minutes to an hour (lotta darned bands!!!).

Here's the info:

Just look for the fat man thrashing himself into traction, and that'll probably be me (the STOOGES!!!! Yay!!!)

2. Yeah, I LOVE the Lyres...
Many great live shows with them...I have to admit, the drunker Monoman was, the better the shows were...I remember one show where they couldn't get it together the first couple of songs, and he started downing a bottle of Jack...after the 5th song, the magic started, and it turned into one of my favorite R&R shows ever!!!

5. Oh man, I forgot all about that.
I remember when you posted about it a while back, and I posted in the thread a few times myself. I'd love to go to that show; too bad it's THIS Saturday! An old friend is having a bunch of us up to his place on a lake in NH this weekend, and these are people I only see once a year (if I'm lucky). Oh, well. Please post about the show, after you've recovered of course. I'd love to hear about it.

7. Some of the folks in the Cynics ( past and current)
were friends of mine. Sounds like a cool show.

8. The Cynics have always been one of my favorites...
In the late 80's I must have seen them a dozen or more times...every time they hit DC, I was there...they also did an in-store at the record store I used to work at (Vinyl Ink in Silver Spring-RIP). I still have a big pile of autographed records (yes folks RECORDS!) from then...
Very cool folks...and I think it's great that they've kept Get Hip records going for this long...they are one of the main reasons for the re-emergence of garage music...

original line-ups and I used to see them quite a bit back then. Not recently though. I talked to Greg K at a party my one friend had at X-mas - hadn't seen him in years. He does a good job of keeping good music out there.
