5. Gump
the CCR song (that because I'm "challenged" I can't remember the name of now) that's used when Gump is in Vietnam. Wonder if he ran into Kerry while he was there? Ya know, since he went.

Sorry, I'm in the midst of a Vietnam service arguement with a total idiot at work who just can't stop harping on all bad things about Kerry's service. Although he gets strangely quite when you drop the statement "at least he went".

6. anti war or pro war?
For me Kent State was one of the most powerful anti-war songs out there, even though it wasn't strictly about "war" at all.

Pro war? The classic old Irish tune about greenfields (can't remember the proper title) that inspired generations of young Irishmen to take up arms against the Brits.

10. The Minstrel Boy
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 12:34 PM by amber dog democrat
< Snip >

From the rebellion of 1798

Oh land of song, the minstrel said,
tho all the world betrays thee,
One faithful sword thy rights shall guard
one faithful harp shall praise thee.

The minstel fell but the foeman's chain
would not pull his proud spirit under.
The harp he loved neer spoke again,
for he tore its chords asunder.
No tyrant's hand shall sully thee.
Oh soul of love and bravery.
Thy songs intended for the pure and free
and will not sound in slavery.

9. The Flesh Failures/Let The Sunshine In
Most of the songs on the "Hair" soundtrack are anti-war or pro-group sex and drugs. But the last song is heartbreaking, as it addresses the loss of a young man's life.

15. Patriot Game- anti-war--war song
Edited on Wed Aug-11-04 12:51 PM by Wubette
Patriot Game, The
Dominic Behan

Come all you young rebels and list while I sing
For love of ones land is a terrible thing
It banishes fear with the speed of a flame
And makes us all part of the patriot game

My name is O'Hanlon, I'm just gone sixteen
My home is in Monaghan there I was weaned
I learned all my life cruel England to blame
And so I'm part of the patriot game
