His name means "eagle that talks"....

2. Actually, it was a ship...
...that was named after a Franciscan monk :) Vascano (sp?) sailed into San Diego bay in the early 1600's and promptly named the harbor after the ship he stood on, the San Diego.

3. Living in California most of my life...
I can tell you that all the 'San's are male saints, and all the 'Santa's are female saints.

El and La are 'The', as is Los.

I got a D in my Spanish class because I could translate place names, but could not make a sentence.
