Here's a grin for the ladies....
Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman.

The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because otherwise they were all going to fall.

They weren't able to name that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech.

She said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope because, as a woman, she was used to giving up everything for her husband and kids, or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrifices with little in return.

As soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping their hands....

Thanks to an email pal for sending me this!

3. I don't care for it, really...

It's just too mean for my tastes...

I don't have any desire to insult an entire perfectly decent subgroup of people, by laughing at the thought of them falling to their deaths...

6. Oh, come on Mara... you don't get the Irony?
That women have always sacrificed, but (generalization coming up) men only sacrifice inadvertantly?

9. Yeah, I'm just not into male/female generalizations

at all. I think they've caused too much pain and division.

We're all a blend of male and female energies, anyway.

12. I suppose it's because of all that transpired before you then...
I have lived through enough sexism in the past four decades to understand that it isn't as easy as just saying that we should all get along. No, we STILL do not make what men make, we STILL experience the glass-ceiling in good-old-boy corporations, we STILL experience violent crime on a larger scale than men in our own homes, we STILL end up with the short end of the stick.

13. I understand everything that you are saying

but I don't see how anything but animosity is bred by making huge generalizations. There are a lot of great, feminist men out there, and I don't wish to lump them all in one category or blame their biological sex for my problems.

That said, I realize it's only a joke, and I'm not what I'd exactly call offended by it. I just don't share your sense of humor in this matter, but it's no big deal. :)

(aside from my parenthetical one above, which by introducing it as such, made it not one) and I rarely do.

15. I wasn't accusing you of doing so,

and if you'll read my last comment again, you'll see that I do understand it's just a joke.

I posted my feelings, only because I have always had a strong gut reaction to this kind of humor, which seems to just stem from a lot of female bitterness, and strikes me as sexist and unkind towards men.

We have different interpretations of/reactions to this joke. Not a big deal. Just how humor works, I think. To each her or his own.

4. BUT.. how would you feel about this joke if the roles were reversed

and for some reason, 10 "dumb blondes" or other type of women fell to their deaths because of their lesser intelligence and the man's great idea?

I just don't think reverse sexism is fair, no matter how bitter some women may be.

I'm sorry to jump on you so harshly, silverweb. It's not personal. I'm just offering some opinions that may not be considered by everyone, otherwise.

5. It was sent to me by a male friend with a sense of humor.
No one is expected to take it personally. It's not real and no one actually "fell to their deaths."

Both men and women tell dumb jokes and this is only one more.

8. I think I was a guy in another life

Either that, or I'm just my daddy's girl... :)

The mean jokes women tell about men have always bothered me, for some reason.

I know it's supposed to be funny, but some things just don't strike me that way...

I guess because I don't buy into the generalizations that would make them so.
