OMG-- my computer has been in the shop and I have been "outed"

as a "flaming liberal" from the guy who was working on it :eyes: He said that he kept pulling up a site, and I said, "democratic underground," and he said "yep, that one." He told me he was a "swing" voter who liked Bush and "worshipped" Bill O'Reilly. :eyes:

After FOUR days I finally got it back today and we had a "nice" debate about Kerry and Bush when I picked it up. I thought that computer techs were supposed to be more "professional" when doing their job. They shouldn't be surfing people's web pages, but nevertheless, I said, it's a great site and you should try it! :evilgrin:

I think it's a perfect opportunity to express how you feel about the country......it's a perfect opportunity to say how * is destroying everything regular Americans feel about our country. It's our country too!! It's a country that abides by the sentiment of do the right thing. The constitution, the 10 commandments, and everything else that morally runs peoples lives. It's something that we all believe in, hard work, honesty, fair share, and fair play. It's just the feeling that you CAN get ahead if the rules, and opportunity are available.

I went in to see if they had finished working on it and he said and I QUOTE: "how can I put this nicely, you're a flaming liberal, cause I keep getting this, uh,..." and that's when I lit into to him. I told him I was a Democrat and proud of it and then I went on to say I was extremely offended at his unprofessionalism.

2. I make it a policy to NEVER snoop in a computer I'm fixing without consent

of the owner. The only time I've *needed* to do that was when the Rev. Todd asked me to fix his computer. He had gotten hacked at a public LAN party and needed me to remove viruses/spyware/illegal files. He was there the entire time I was finding and removing files manualy.

7. actually it was the "front desk"

guy. One of the techs was on vacation and he was "helping" ...I later learned that one of the techs took it away from him so it could actually fix it. It took FOUR f****** days. I checked on it DAILY 'cause they would not call to let me know anything.

i donno if they are required to check the histories for illegal material or not. but DU is far from illegal, and it shouldnt matter that you have it in there.

talk to the prick's boss, tell him about the situation... get his ass in trouble.

besides, why would this even come up? unless in the unlikley event DU caused the problem he has no reason to bring it up much less call you names.

11. yeah I was wondering

why it came up too. I have no idea what a computer tech does to "fix" a computer, so I was baffled by this one too. I did talk to the other technician who had to take over because this idiot couldn't fix it and he apologized and said he would "take care of it and that this WAS unprofessional and NOT their policy"...just an overall weird experience. I won't be using them again.

He has no business commenting on a customer's political beliefs. He has no business using your computer to surf the web, and calling you a "flaming liberal" is beyond the pale.
Do not let him comment about your political beliefs without a rational comment. Tell him, and his manager, that you will be taking your business elsewhere becuase their technicians are unprofessional. Also mention that you will tell your friends.

If DU is set as your home page, whenever they opened a browser window they'd get it. Depending on what's wrong with your machine they might do that a lot.

However, it sounds like he was surfing on your machine, not working to fix it. If so, that's unprofessional.
