All this hurricane news is making me nostalgic...
for my 'Natural Disaster' experiences.

Several earthquakes, but nothing 'earth shattering.' Most of them I slept through, or didn't feel. We did feel the recent Seattle quake up her in Vancouver, but no damage. It did get my attention though. They say that the 'Big One' could hit anytime.

Hurricane Fico (sp?) in Hawaii in the mid 70's. It was really windy, naturally. No great amount of damage from what I can remember. Snorkeling sucked for a few days though.

Mount St. Helen's. This is my high-water mark as far as natural disasters go. I wasn't in any real danger, but I was close enough to hear the explosion and get covered in ash (in a few hours.) The strangest thing was that the cloud of ash completely enveloped us. At 11:00 am is was pitch black for 1 hour.

What are your stories.

2. I made a cake from scratch once
I think the recipe was off. I'm sure it was the recipe. Anyway, there was chocolate all over the kitchen. Counter, floor, walls, ceiling, appliances. You name it, it was flecked with gooey brown stuff.

Back in my 'Easy Bake Oven' days, I invented some cookies that the dog wouldn't even eat.

3. Fran got us back a few years ago in Chapel Hill...
It was way cool!:D
I love storms and especially hurricanes!

Years ago my oldest daughter and I were in a pop-up tent on Emerald Isle when Hurricane Bob (I think) came ashore at Myrtle Beach. We had a meeting in the afternoon as to whether to evacuate...but it looked like it would come in at Myrtle. My daughter (who was about 3) and I had a little prayer meeting in our tent with candles and then went to bed. It rained like hell and was realy windy, but we were unscathed. We had fun and she still remembers it at 22!

My son and I used to love to line up the candles and the flashlights and watch the Weather Channel all day when a big one was looking like it might hit NC....what can I say, I'm a weather fanatic.

I watched the movie "The Perfect Storm" many times too.

Lat year we sat out on the screened porch drinking Hurricanes while Isable rolled through....:bounce:
