Beware: Tomorrow is Friday the 13th!!!
Are you superstitious? Ever have anything bad happen to you on that day? Anything good?

Don't have time to look it up, but where did the fear of this day originate?

1. Never had anything bad happen to me on that day
and hell, I've already had about seven root canals, the IRS has now audited me, I've been in BAD car accidents, and I was an abused child.

You think a DATE scares me? HA! I LAUGH in the face of Friday the 13th! Come on F13, give me all you got!!

5. Depends on the culture.
Some believe black cats are lucky, some bad luck; the Irish, interestingly enough, believe tortoiseshell/calico cats are lucky, especially if they're 'foundlings' -- Ashcroft believes they're a tool of Satan. We have two tortoiseshell cats, both of whom found us -- I'm not worried about Friday the 13th or Ashcroft!

7. Just make sure
you're walking under a ladder and throwing a mirror to the ground while they're crossing your path. You're sure to get lucky then. (Or perhaps you already have. ;-) )

9. Oh I'm at the dancing-on-graves stage at this point!
:D

like the other poster said, Friday the 13th has nothing the rest of the year isn't already dishing out, and I still come away feeling lucky. I DARE tomorrow to bring ME down!

4. Lots of places...
Seems that all over Europe they had stories of the 12 'Good' Gawds and the one evil one.

Then there was Christianity, with Jesus plus 12 apostles (with Judas taking the spot as the evil one).

As for Friday, it seems the Romans wouldn't start any jobs on Friday because it was a bad day to start things.

Likewise, Jews spent Friday (during the day) preparing for the Sabbath which started at sunset, not getting any of the 'normal' work done.

12. very simply. . .
Symbolically, Friday is traditionally considered to be ruled by Venus. Thirteen is the number of transformation. It's represented in the Tarot as the Death card, and is associated with the planet Pluto.

Ever heard of sex referred to as the "little death?"

People who believed whole heartedly in symbolism once believed that each Friday, they were required to do tributes to Venus throughout the day. Commonly, this meant creating things of beauty on every Friday.

When the thirteenth fell on a Friday, it was most auspicious.

It combined a Scorpionic theme with Venusian energy so that the only way to ward off negative energy (i.e. death) was to make wild and passionate, and hopefully consensual love throughout the day in order to ward off all negative possibilities.

Go figure.

14. So, you're saying I should call off work tomorrow
and spend the day making wild, passionate love? Cool!

Too bad my sweetie is hundreds of miles away. :-(

15. Don't lose your job.
If stuck at a distance and just for good measure, communicate your undying love relentlessly through more creative technological means.

Have a nice day.

Inland at least but it's a tad tense around here.

19. I'm in Delray, for once, I can say...
...I'm glad I'm in SOUTH EAST FL! Oh holy CRAP!

Me and my sis went to the Boynton Inlet around sunset this evening. No waves really...NO WIND. Now, for those who do not know, the Boynton Inlet is THE SINGLE WORST inlet on the ENTIRE EAST COAST for bad currents, violent waves, etc. And not a damn peep. I have NEVER seen it that way, EVER. Calm before the storm ain't even the words for it. Just freaky.

I wouldn't have noticed today that tomorow was a Friday The 13th, until I saw the thread here...WHAT LUCK, HUH?

Lu Cifer, can't wait until around 3 or 4 AM when the first feeder-bands hit here...oooooooohhhh shiiiiiiiiit!

20. Tampa area news ghouls have been non stop on their
pre-Hurricane coverage. It was hot today, upper 90's heat index, NOT a good sign. Funny little cool breezes during the day possibly from Bonnie but it seemed rather eerie.

It's the damn tornadoes that spring up that worry me. :scared:
