Fla,GA,SC,NC DU'ers! How's your hurricane prep going....The first thing
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 10:47 PM by KoKo01
came though NC and dropped buckets of rain but was out of here quick. Waiting for the next one..which sounds worse.

We here in NC are getting used to everything coming our way, but it's wearing..especially if our "hog farms" overwash again with alot of rain.
and we have what seems to be a constant power outage with whatever comes our way..hurricanes, ice storms...usually one or two a year now:-(

We are getting pretty savy and hearty when it comes to this stuff, though. I think we are learning to deal with what happens when our rainforest disappear. Leaves a clear path through the Piedmont of NC and on up the Coast where PA and NY are already suffering from too much rain.

1. Got my water, my batteries,
my ice for the cooler if necessary...

Nothing ever happens when I'm prepared...

2. I am in Greensboro NC smack dab in the middle of the rain showers .
I am used to this as well but not two hurricanes at the same time . And both are heading right up this way . And tomorrow is Friday 13th ( fingers for good luck for everyone in the eye of the storm . ) I am worried about the flash floods that the rain is bringing . We had a couple of tornado warnings as well today . Power outages , hurricanes and ice storms are the usually forte around here .

3. I forgot about Friday the 13th...sheesh...I've got the batteries but maybe
I better go get the ice bags for the fridge...given that it's the 13th.

5. I think the first one's gone. We had it in Raleigh for two hours but it's
been quiet since. I think the next one comes tomorrow night and it's more powerful from what I'm hearing.

7. Yeah I think Raleigh is really going to feel it tomorrow night .
When was at NCSU classes were always cancelled due to the storms . I miss having " Hurricane Parties " .

4. I bought a little two burner propane stove after Hurrican Fran...and it's
been a huge help to have coffee and soup. A fondue pot (what I had to use before...just doesn't do it with that candle thingy). I've got some battery flourescent lights that work great, too. Keep supplies now, all the time.

6. Tomorrow....
We're going to get some more water, peanut butter, etc. Filling up my car tomorrow, too (Jane's already filled up hers). I'm glad we have a gas stove; helps if the power goes. I still haven't invested in a generator (yeah, I know; that sounds crazy when you live in Wilmington!:eyes: ). We're hoping it's not going to be bad enough here that I'll have to call the usual place we stay in Cary when visiting friends in the Triangle, but if it looks worse by late tomorrow afternoon in terms of Charley's final landfall I may need to do that.

He may miss us with his worst, or we may end up right in his path; it's hard to figure yet. Looks now as though he'll likely hit this state SOMEWHERE on Saturday afternoon or evening. Just hope neither we, nor the poor Outer Banks, get the brunt of him--nor the brunt of his potential flooding, either!

B-)

10. Good Luck in Wilmington. Folks have just gotten it all back together
there the last few years after "Fran" was it? We have so many hurricanes I've forgotten, but that's the one that was really bad here in Raleigh and left a mess. I don't thin this one is predicted to be like that...but as you said it's the floods...Yuck...

8. I got gas for the generator today.
About 3 days' worth of spare electricity. And a fifth of tequila and some triple sec and margarita mix (now seriously damaged) and a case of beer. We'll put some fresh water in containers if it looks like it's gonna get bad, and assuming we can walk and/or think coherently in the AM. Other than that, it's just a matter of waiting to see what happens. And getting intoximicated.

9. Hey "Short Bus" haven't seen you in awhile, Good Luck...I hope we don't
need it. Seems a couple of years ago we were talking about a hurricane coming though NC and what we would do here in the Lounge. That one didn't cause the trouble predicted. Hope this one goes by with just rain. But, we know what to do now.

:hi:
