Best MC5 recording - heres's my opinion
The 45 of "Looking at You". Memory fades a bit, but I think it was 1967, on the A Squared label (?). I like the later version on the "Back in the USA" LP, but the earlier version smokes !

1. I saw them on the "back in the USA" tour

One of the best concert experiences of my young life.

Lead singer Rob Tyner died several years ago and guitar player Fred "Sonic" Smith died sometime earlier. He was Patti Smith's husband.

I have an orig Kick out the Jams album stamped with the White Panther logo

Kick out the Jams Motherfuckers!

6. They were just trying to protect me
My mom used to let me listen to anything I wanted to.
Someone had to step in.

2. I have a special feeling for Back In The USA
Because it was recorded just a few blocks from my Jr. High and after school we would go hang around outside and talk to the band as they came and went.

4. I like the record a lot too
Shame that all those great songs got such a lame ass production by Jon Landau.

7. WOW ! That's a brush with history AND stardom, all in one
Remember the Stooges from Ann Arbor? (I think it was Ann Arbor)
Iggy Stooge (Later Pop) invented throwing up on their audience and stage diving (Passing out).

And people thought we just listened to The Beatles all day.

8. Don't forget
Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, The Frost, The Rationals.

Michigan was a hotbed in those days

9. Speaking of the Rationals...
Scott Morgan is still touring, and his band TEARS IT UP.

He plays several Sonic's Rendezvous Band songs as well (closes with "City Slang").

10. Gotta agree with "Looking at You"
and the studio version of "Borderline" on the flipside.

That single came closer to capturing their live sound than either of their studio albums.
