Sigh...I've got jealous pets
We had to take in a new cat, as she had nowhere to go. We had just had to put to sleep two dogs and one cat, all of them getting really freeping sick at the same time. They were all over 16 years old, so they had good lives.

Now we are stuck with a newish pet and one of the last pets we've had over the years. Hermes is almost 17, but still healthy as a evergreen tree. BUT...while the new cat and the old cat get along just fine, Hermes doesn't like me petting the new cat. He gets all in a huff if I pay any attention to the new cat.

If you're wondering why I'm not referring to the new cat by name, that's because I don't like her current name. She's a Hemingway cat (6 toes).

1. I know what you mean.
I was going to write that cats are a lot like people; however, I fear the cats of the world would be highly insulted! :)

2. emotion knows no species
In our house, we have a cat, a parrot, a lovebird, several tanks of fish, and four hamsters! Our cat favors me because I am home so much (no job..thanks Shrub!), but our parrot favors my partner because he SPOILS her! When the cat jumps in my partner's lap, the parrot, Willow, goes nuts! She (Willow) doesn't like when someone else gets attention! She will even squawk when my partner kisses me!! But, what are you going to do?! I love my pets!

BTW...I love that you have a cat named Hermes! I am partial to Greek mythological names although the pets in out house run the gamut, as names go.

Brightest Blessings!

3. Polydactyl, Not Hemingway
He had polydactyl cats, but he didn't invent them!

Oh, and Hermes will get over it. Eventually.

4. I have 5..the 3 of the 4 males are jealous of all the others..
my girl is either scared or blase abt the boys, and the 4th male is such a whacko that it would not occur to him to be jealous. (He stands behind me and nips at my legs while I get their food ready each day, and loves to bite the other cats, but in a sneaky kind of way.) One of my males actually became MUCH more talkative in the last year or so, because male #4 is a siamese mix, and never shuts up.

As someone else posted, animals have many of the same feelings that humans have.

5. Quinn is jealous of the new little girl. . . .
He seems to think she's a squeaky toy for him to chew on. He also seems to think that I'm totally unworthy of him since I saw fit to bring another creature with fur into his domain.

Unless of course she's out of sight, then he's all over me like the loving puffball he used to be.

6. I've come to conclusions about my cats
Abbott is my pet and he treats Evita like she's his pet.

Is this possible?
