Drum solo intros!
Can anyone top the intro to Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher" and the old song "Wipeout?"

4. That's the one I thought of first
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 07:50 AM by Quahog
I'm not a drummer, but my son is, and that confounds him utterly. I think that the basic groove that sounds like it's being played on a floor tom is actually being played on a small, loosely-tuned kick. That's the only way Hunt Sales could have kept his hands free for the hihat and snare parts.

First time I heard that song, I thought the drum track was overdubbed. But then I saw them do it live (with Bowie on piano and synth... cool!), and Hunt nailed it.

Best drum intro EVER.

5. Anyone remember the Jefferson Airplane?
The drum intro to "3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds" off their live-at-the-Fillmore album Bless Its Pointed Little Head." For a minute there, Spencer Dryden channels Keith Moon.

6. Without question, Zigaboo Modeliste's intro to Cissy Strut
by The Meters. It's short but sweet. "Awwwww Ya"..... Zigaboo is the King of Funky Drums and that is one of the grooviest tunes ever recorded. The percussion on the whole song is out of this world.

9. Led Zep's "Rock and Roll"
Cymbal-intensive, yes, but there ARE John Bonham drums there too. :headbang:
