Did George Carlin depress anybody else?
I heard for the first time the re-run of Janeane's show last night with GC, who struck me as so existentially distant from the plight of the world. I'm not even necessarily disagreeing with his position, but I wonder how one gets out of bed in the morning if you're that blase.

He said, essentially, that though he might lean more left than right, he sees the whole political system, the class system in America, etc as beyond repair, and that he therefore doesn't really care what happens, he just observes it.

Existential or just rich & content enough to shrug off social responsibility?

2. I choose option "C"
Comedian. :) His schtick has been "I don't give a f^ck" since day one.

There are always those of us who agree with him wholly or in part.

4. I'll be the contrarian
I saw Carlin in concert last year. I have tickets to see him next month.

He is the greatest comedian I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. His comedy is not political, and anybody who expects it to be will be disappointed. However, he has been succesful for almost 40 years because he's NOT political - his comedy is decidedly apolitical and timeless.

You will NEVER see a more polished, accomplished comedian than Carlin. The only ones I've ever seen that even came close were Rodney Dangerfield and Paula Poundstone.

5. Napalm and Silly Putty
and Brain Droppings are two of the greatest books ever written!

George Carling is the smartest, funniest comic out there. He is a living treasure. He cracks me up. Yes he is a little mean.

6. He's gotten meaner as he's gotten older.
Still, he's probably the foremost authority on conversational English in the world. We eagerly await all of his new shows on HBO in the Why household, even if he's become a bitter old man.
