Am I The Only DUer who HATES Pro Football????
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 09:50 AM by CO Liberal
Personally, I can't think of a bigger waste of time than spending an entire Sunday afternoon watching overpaid jocks playing for millionaire owners in taxpayer-financed stadiums with corporate logos on them.

Anyone agree with me? Please check in.

9. I hate all football and most TV sports
Sometimes I will watch a World Series baseball game or two, maybe even the NBA finals, even an Olympic event (though American TV coverage sucks rubber donkey dicks, as another poster in another thread mentioned), but I tend to avoid socializing with the kind of people who are sports-obsessed. Come to think of it, they avoid socializing with me too.

19. Hate it. However,
I loved "Remember the Titans," "Rudy," and "Brian's Song," and one of my favorite all-time books is Pete Gent's North Dallas Forty, yet I couldn't tell you what two teams are in the Superbowl on any given year. Go figure.

I loved Bobcat Goldwaith's routine about football. Someone throws a flare at him and dismisses this act of violence with

"Dude! Niners!"
"Oh, 'Niners!' Why didn't you say so? Here, here's your flare back. Why not try for the old lady in the Pinto?"

I was just called condescending elsewhere for this viewpoint, btw.

30. I never realized HOW much I hated it until I moved to Dallas....
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 10:09 AM by fudge stripe cookays
Every moron with a free bumper has a freaking Cowboys sticker on it.

BFD.

These extortionists are now trying to move their stadium from Irving to Arlington, and expect the citizens there to be so grateful for the "added revenue" that they'll gladly pay a bazillion new dollars in taxes to pay for the freaking thing.

They are criminals-- coke-heads, wife beaters, they cause traffic accidents in their million dollar automobiles and kill people.

I hate everything the game stands for. Idiots who barely graduated from high school being paid way too much money to throw a hunk of pigskin around. And Jerry Jones, taking all the money he earns from this and cuddling up to Chimpy and his good ole boy network. FUCK I hate these people.

Anyone who ever saw Deion Sanders in a full-length fur coat in DALLAS (where it rarely gets cold enough in winter to wear fur let alone any other season!) know exactly what I'm talking about.

50. Because I was telling the truth?
I'm sick of seeing Cowboys bumper stickers.

I'm sick of seeing disgustingly rich assholes make ordinary people pay exorbitant amounts to build their stadiums for them.

I'm sick of the fact that when so many newsworthy events happen every day, the only thing people in this city seem to care about are the freaking Dallas Cowboys.

We discuss these same sorts of issues every day on DU as they pertain to the Bushes. Jerry Jones is cut from the same cloth as those evil fuckers.

Condescending? Yeah. Whatever.

43. There's this crazy thing I do called
"Spending time with my son." Without a television in the room. Yes, I know how crazy that sounds. We run, we bike, we read, we play. I wouldn't discourage him from football if he should become interested someday, but he won't pick it up from his dad, that's for sure.

Used to mountain bike but moved to the flattest area in the hemisphere. So now I kayak in the harbor and the ocean.

Racquetball.

Running.

Movies, plays, concerts, writing, DU.

Note I didn't include "reading Karl Marx" or "fudge packing."

Was a big fan in my youth, BALTIMORE COLTS. When that rich bastard Irsay stole my team I lost interest. When my old home town did the same to Cleveland that sealed it. Ain't gonna waste my ever diminishing time on that bs no more.
To think that Johnny Unitas got paid less in one year than some of these steriod freaks gets for a half an hour is disgusting.

I do agree with FSC above that pro-football franchises are some of the worst corporate criminals in the lot today. If they need a new stadium they should pay for it themselves. Stop stealing from the taxpayers, to line your own pockets your rich fucks.
