The new kitten has come into her first heat, and she's driving me crazy
MEYOWL all night, all day. I'm beginning to regret saving her ass, there is an operation in her future, I never figured her to come in this fast. Anyone want a cat? She looks like socal's starvin marvin.

1. I feel your pain
I couldn't afford to get female fixed at the time so I suffered through 3 months of heat. She calmed down for about 1 week a month so I could sleep. I think what pissed me off more than anything was that she hopped on the counter and sprayed my microwave. Ewww!

11. Okay
But if she gets preggers the vet will abort the fetuses. It might lead to a longer recovery for her. But some say that cats should have one litter, it mellows them or something like that.

2. that sucks
On the plus side, many people advocate letting an animal have one heat before spaying. You may be doing her some good.

21. naturalists mostly
some vets. the theory is that if you wait till they've gone into heat, then they are physically, mentally, and sexually adult animals capable of more adult interactions with other cats.

3. three words: warm hot dog
Use your imagination. Never tried it myself, but it's supposed to calm that animal urge.

5. Abbott lived for me with 3 weeks unfixed
Horniest damn cat you'll ever meet. There were female ferals in heat outside my apartment building and he would yowl all night trying to get their attention. Plus he would scoot back and forth between the window behind my bed and a window on the other side of the wall.

DROVE ME NUTS!!!

6. Yes, I went through that with a cat once.
Yowling and howling all day and night. You can believe I got her to the vet soon after that and had her spayed.

9. Yes. I want a cat. Where do you live? If you're close to me, I'll come and
get her.

Mrs. V.'ll kill me, but . . . what a way to go!

15. Duh. Should've checked profile -- or even your avatar.
I gave you false hope, I'm afraid. I'm sorry. I'm too far away.

Do you truly want to give her away? Call a no-kill shelter.

If not, ride out the storm, then get her spayed ASAP. Dangerous to spay during estrus.

Good luck.

17. I think he feels how I felt after the 4th sleepless night with a horny cat
you don't know how close I was to tossing Abbott back outside when he was getting all horny and whatnot.

But the better part of me bought some OTC sleeping pills and patiently waited for the day he got his operation. He's been the best cat ever since

19. We're going to ride it out
I've found a cut rate vet who will do her, but we still have to wait. They're an animal rescue organization, so they're only cut rate in the fact they want people to be able to do this.

22. I'm not a cat person, so forgive my ignorance...
but I was under the impression that if a female cat goes through estrus without mating, it could do serious, possibly fatal, damage to her reproductive system. Is that true, or was it just propaganda against a pussy's right to choose?

23. Prolonged hard heats can cause pyometria
and other uterine dysfunctions. Mother Nature intended the female cat to be bred when she comes into heat; that's why she announces it so very loudly and shamelessly.

If you can't get a female in heat to the vet pronto, and are squicked by the Q-tip trick (mating brings a female out of heat, so the idea's to trick her system into thinking she was mated), then try keeping her in darkened rooms. Daylight and male pheromones - including those of human males! - will re-trigger estrus, so she needs to be kept in darkened rooms away from boys to try to cycle her out of heat.

GET THEE TO THE VET CLINIC!
