Chances are they didn't know who you were until you popped up on their computer screen (hence the delay when you answer).

Mine's about 140 and I did it for 6 weeks. Sometimes you just do what you have to. Still, having worked in the industry for almost 2 years now (ugh...) I'd call myself by far the exception, and not the rule. There are many people who are very lacking in mental capacity who are on the phones. You'd be amazed the stuff I've been asked, being 'a computer person'... LOL

6. As a Former Telemarketer...

...the person n the other end of the line has no idea where you are - just as you have no idea where THEY are. Virtually every compaby uses a computer-based ssytem that dials the phone and puts basic information about you up on the screen. That's why the telemarketer can greet you by name; they didn't actually look up your number and dial it.

Unfortunately, a ridiculous amount of calls is a requirement and they have to follow the script they are given by their masters. I feel for people who must do this for a living. They sustain an incredible amount of abuse just to make a wage.
