Family caught in Hurrican Charley...
My little brother, sister-in-law and nephew are in Fort Myers where the hurricane is hitting. I don't ask for this kind of thing often but I would appreciate any prayers, karma, good thoughts, etc that anyone wants to send their way.

I'm worried and I want them to come back to Texas RIGHT NOW!

17. You have mine for sure...
I survived Camielle in 1969 and it was awesome, even 120 miles inland. I'll send them good vibes and maybe evven sneak in a prayer.

18. My sister, brother-in-law and niece are in Fort Myers, too
So you and I are in the same boat. Best thoughts and all from here -- I'm sure they'll all get through it fine (not worried about property damage -- just people damage).
John
I'm reminded of the old saw about Florida: "400 miles long, 200 miles wide and six inches high." When I hear about folks heading for "higher ground," I wonder where that higher ground is, exactly.

20. I keep telling myself...
everyone will be fine. I'm sure all your folks will be fine too.

When this is all over and he can laugh about it I'm definitely gonna tell my brother the thing about Florida only being 6 inches high. You managed to get a smile and that ain't easy right now. :)

30. This storm is the first time I've been happy Dad had surgery.
Dad and Mom came back up because he had open heart surgery at Mayo. It was a tough one--and he had problems--but he's getting better. The good news is that they weren't in Ft. Myers at their other place--he's recovering up here in Illinois.

My prayers and good wishes for all of the folks down there dealing with this. Here's hoping very few people got injured and that they all recover soon!

24. One of my favorite hymns is a shaker hymn
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 04:38 PM by Cheswick
Before you read it let me tell you that ever since Andrew (I was there) florida residents are much smarter about Hurricanes. They would have been getting hourly update for the last three days. I am sure they have driven to someplace safe. I'll bet they drove right across the state on Aligator Ally and are safe in Ft Lauderdale or Miami. The people there will be very good to them, because Andrew is still fresh in the memories of all of us why lived through it.

My life goes on in endless song
above earth's lamentations,
I hear the real, though far-off hymn
that hails a new creation.

Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear it's music ringing,
It sounds an echo in my soul.
How can I keep from singing?

While though the tempest loudly roars,
I hear the truth, it liveth.
And though the darkness 'round me close,
songs in the night it giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm,
while to that rock I'm clinging.
Since love is lord of heaven and earth
how can I keep from singing?

When tyrants tremble in their fear
and hear their death knell ringing,
when friends rejoice both far and near
how can I keep from singing?

In prison cell and dungeon vile
our thoughts to them are winging,
when friends by shame are undefiled
how can I keep from singing?
