4. Was that the show
where she ended up sitting all the chickens on the edge of the counter with their little legs hanging off the edge and then they all started to fall off? I remember laughing my ass off at that. She was pretty fun!

especially when she got older and started doing the show with Jacques Pepin. They were so cute together. :)

13. My old gf told me that
Emeril is not liked that much in the culinary industry but Julia is a worshiped goddess.

Rip Julia!

21. Thats because Emeril has sold out
Wow, just checking out some of the stuff he does these days is enough to give me a headache.

Julia IS a worshipped goddess because she was the real deal. No one did it before her and no one has done it better since.

Julia always saw herself as being 'in service' to the food. Conversely, most of the current TV chefs use the food as a way to 'service' their celebrity careers. I find it difficult to think of some of those folks as chefs.

10. R.I.P. dear lady
i just can not separate julia child from dan ackroyd's send up of her on SNL where he/she slices an artery with the blood spurting all over the place on the stage.

14. I prefer the one where she's...
chopping off the head of an enormous fish with an even more enormous cleaver.

But I haven't got it.

15. Bon appetit big gal!
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 05:58 PM by Reciprocity
I can still see all 6-foot-2 of her in an apron with a dish towel tucked into the waist.
Kids these days with Food TV have no idea what it was like not having cooking shows. She was a pioneer in this genre.

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world but sad or merry I must leave it now. Farewell
" Thorin Oakenshield

Julia Child quotes
"It's so beautifully arranged on the plate — you know someone's fingers have been all over it."

"Some people like to paint pictures, or do gardening, or build a boat in the basement. Other people get a tremendous pleasure out of the kitchen, because cooking is just as creative and imaginative an activity as drawing, or wood carving, or music."

18. Once, Julia dropped a chicken on the floor, picked it up, dusted it off,
and continued to prepare it. Then she looked into the camera and trilled conspiritorially...

"Remember, you're the ONLY ONE in the kitchen!"

She was a gem, a unique and wonderful person, and I will follow her lead in the use of butter, cream and wine in cooking forever. She and Justin Wilson were my kitchen mentors...

In her memory, eat, drink and love well!

19. Justin Wilson?
Retch. Watched him pick his nose on camera once. A faux hick Emeril before his time.

IMHO, of course. ;-)

20. Sorry, guy, maybe its a regional thing....But I LOVE his gumbo
and his jambalaya is flawless. He taught me barbecue shrimp, crab cakes, and several other staples of my southern diet. He may have been a hick, but there was nothing "faux" about Justin-he was just what he appeared to be, a crazy Cajun (must like Carville) who could take simple ingredients and make them very special.

I'll send you some cyber seafood gumbo and you'll see what I mean!
