Why are avatars showing up as boxes with small x'es in them?

I'm noticing that suddenly I can't see avatars anymore and all I get are black boxes with x'es in the corner.

Anyone else having this problem? What is a likely solution?

2. Bandwidth problems

The load on the DU servers is probably very high, and the overall load on the Internet in this area (the East Coast of the USA) is abnormally high due to Hurricane Charley.

If you have some spare money laying around doing nothing but tempting you to buy junk food, cigarettes, dope, beer, or poorly-produced pornography, you might want to contribute to the DU fund. The next fund drive starts tomorrow.

There is no "DefCon" message and usually there is no red 'X' when the avatar feature is disabled.

Yeah, I didn't even think of the hurricane being a factor, but you're right.

And I do hope to get my star back this time around, if finances permit. I lost mine about 6 months ago, and I miss having one a lot. :)
