Just Installed OS X Panther
I admit it's easier to use and sleeker. How can I get the most out of it? How did you?

2. Trash them?
Safari, and all the iApps are great. I am not as found of their email program or Appleworks but they do many great programs.
Safari and iTunes are standouts.

3. The Apple aps are vastly superior to what I was using before.
Much more stable than Netscape and don't even get me started on microsloth crap.

OSX rocks and is much better than anything else out there.

Don't know what the dude is talking about, but my experience has been extreemly good with the new aps.

5. OS X Best OS any platform.
Ok, OK.

Yes OS X is only on the Apple platform. Thats said it is still the best OS out there. Yes you can buy cheap WINTEL based PC's or Linux based PC or Mac.

Linux is cheap and open source but the bulk of the program out there for it are no where near the caliber of Mac or PC.

I do not have a problem with commercial software.

I have no problem with people making profits of software or computers.

I do have a problem with some of the business tactics, especially Microsoft, Apple has done stuff if haven't liked but I still like their products.

10. Asshole Safari was the first to hit the trash
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 02:38 PM by Florida_Geek
From my July letter to Steve Jobs

Safari: Snoopware from Hell
I had planned on using Apple's Web browser but some shit for brains designed it. I had exported
my "favorites/bookmarks" into the Web Standard Bookmarks.html file and planned to import it into
Safari. but oh no, no import function for that. So off I go and download a favorite browser from my
PC world Firefox. Firefox for Mac has a method to import my bookmark.html and I am off to happy
browsing. Some time later something causes Safari to kick off and guess what, it stole all the
bookmarks from Firefox. Only in Apple's world would you have to install a browser, set it up before
Safari can steal its bookmarks. Safari is the first Apple app that has hit the old trashcan.
I really do not like a program stealing things from another program without telling me

iPhoto:
I have over 1300 photo in my photo directory. I have scanned and put into folders with names most
of my 30 year photo collection. I had my collection of photos on a CD ready for my first Apple. I
tried iPhoto, brought it up and told it to import the collections of photos. IT took all 1300 pictures
and dumped them into their "library" without the folders and told me to sort them into albums. To
quote Dick Cheney "Go Fuck Yourselves” Apple. OK, I am a Nikon owner and they produce a good
product for the Mac/PC world called Nikon View and it is free. I pointed it at my collection of
pictures and boy oh boy, they showed the folders with their names just what I wanted....

so far in their Office Suite. The best email program. And their software works.

I use Firefox both on PC and Mac. Works for me.

thunderbird email is a good 1995 email program maybe it will become a Great 2004 email program someday.

15. As much as I hate Microsoft
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 06:59 PM by Florida_Geek
I have to say again their software works on Apples system.

For example. I needed a good anti-virus program so I brought Norton System Works... I figured wrong that I could use their Speed Disk to defrag my hard drive.... No Speed Disk does not work unless you boot from the CD ..... OK I boot from the CD.... Error Screen.... Check their Web site.... No they are getting out of the apple utilities business and they do not support the newer apples like the 1.5 gig powerbook..... So I buy Tech Tools Pro ver 4..... Again you have to boot from CD to get any disk tools to really work. OK I boot from the CD .... Error Screen .... check their web site... No they do not support the newer Apples too but SOMEDAY in the future they will mail me a CD that works.... I paid $24 to overnight their software only to find it has the same problems as Nortons........

Brought Office Pro from MS and yes I know they just brought the Virtual PC company, but not only do the standard office products work right out of the box,,,, but I booted XP for giggles and it came right up.....

Microsoft provided software that worked right out of the box where Norton and the TechTools ppl could not.

6. i love Panther
and can't wait for Tiger; i use quite a few third-party apps, such as Firefox (which has bugs, but is way better for my needs). but the majority of those apps are for various media forms; windows media, realplayer, Divx, etc. but i know one thing, i don't know how i used computers before Expose'. it pisses me off to no end when i automatically put my mouse into the upper lefthand corner on other computers, and the windows don't move

o, and try to learn how to naviagte unix. it lets you manipulate some files that are difficult to work with in OSX's interface

8. What are you looking to do, Sean?
It entirely depends on your needs.

Me? I use Safari and iChat (some, not much, chatting being a terrible time sink) and Mail; I have garageband and the iLife suite that I use for sound editing and Mariner Write (a 3rd party product) that I use for word processing. Other stuff, but harder to define.

Mr. Pcat uses... the above, but ThinkFree office and Star Office for office apps, Firefox for some surfing, and a lot of development tools. (I write the documentation, he writes the code.)

Hit http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ for software you want.

And as another poster mentioned, learn a bit of Unix. It helps.

9. Expose is neat
you can set it to one of the mouse button in the System Preferences.

One of my fave add-ons for Safari is PithHelmet, it filters ads and junk.

It's probably best to use version 0.7.3
