Trumad here.... and I survived Hurricane Charley!!!
Edited on Sat Aug-14-04 12:37 PM by trumadalterego
I'm posting at my dad's house because my home has no electricity and won't for a while... He lives far enough away to have not been effected by the storm.

Folks...it was a major fff'ing storm. I live in Oviedo just outside Orlando and the eye of the storm hit us Dead on. Thousands of trees were destroyed from 100 year old massive Oaks to 100 ft Magnolia's.

Neighborhoods are impassible because of downed trees and power lines. The biggest gusts last night over my house measured over 100 miles per hour. I lost power at 9:15 pm last night and they said it should take a couple of days to get it back. Life is disrupted but at least the death toll was minimal around here. Unlike Punta Gorda down in the Ft. Myers area.

Anyway... just an update from trumads alter ego...

PS: My alter ego is just as big an asshole, so watch it...

1. Good to Hear From You Trumad!
Hurricane Charley has managed to touch my entire family in from the coast of west FL to the Carolina shores. Some property damage, but everyone is safe.

5. Have you seen any National Guard patrolling the areas
checking houses for survivors, directing traffic, keeping looters at bay, that sort of thing?

6. LOL
First responders are limited in our area because of cut-backs and the fucking Iraq war. Go figure

16. Glad to hear you are safe!
I am sad  to hear that the first responders are limited. The BFEE is yet again responsible for deaths. Yes, it was a natural disaster but where the F was the National Guard and the efforts to evacuate?

I hate the BFEE!

8. Hi Trumad... We survived on the Northast Coast too... and we are without
power... just three houses on our block due to a blown transformer (which blows every time the wind goes over 20 mph!). (We got less than predicted, a whole lot less than might have been, but it was scary watching those huge pine trees that surround our house swaying and bending back and forth in the wind...)

Having experience with FPL, we bought a generator several years ago. It really helped when Gabrielle made her visit here a couple of years ago, and is helping now by keeping my refrigerator cold, my computer up, and providing light in the darkness.

Hope FPL has your power back up sooner than I expect mine (a five minute operation) to be in order.

12. Sorry to hear about your close encounter with Charley Trumad (A.E.)
The eye missed us by about 10 mi, so instead of 100+ mph winds, we got more like 60 mph winds. Thankfully the two beautiful old oak trees in our yard made it through the storm with minimal damage. Most unbelievable of all, our power stayed on throughout the whole storm. Usually it goes out when we get winds speeds above 30 mph or so. I hope your power is restored soon!

I lived in South Florida most of my life and have been through more hurricanes than I can count and I know how scary they can be. The worst part is the aftermath when you have no electricity for a few days and possibly a week. Been there, done that. Glad you made it through OK.
