noone knew what half a million people looked like all in one place before. I was only 17 in 1969 and it was a great time to be alive. There was the absolute best music being created and the summer of love was just getting started. Still, I was going to be draft bait in a year but that didn't worry me too much in 69.
I'm glad that that was the era I grew up in. What wonderful memories of music. Though I'm still mad that they didn't invite The 1910 Fruitgum Company to Woodstock.
Were they suppose to accomplish something other than have a HUGE outdoor concert which was to draw thousands of people from around the country? I don't think so. It was a week-end of free love, music and pure unadulterated FUN. Sick THAT in your bong and smoke it! :grr:
Yeah, nothing but the entire nation finally coming to the realization that the youth had a voice and they were going to be heard. Nothing but people taking notice that it's entirely possible for more than 1/2 a million people to gather in one place without violence. Nothing but showing that 1/2 a million people can work together to turn what had been declared a disaster area into an event that will be talked about long after all of the participants are dead and gone.
Nothing was accomplished? I completely disagree.
Big egos? Big egos wouldn't have played the show for free in the middle of a rainstorm (and in the case of bands on the second stage, while wind was causing the stage to move across the mud and sparks were flying from the guitars).
