Daddy's post-apocalypse trip to the vet/Got any vet stories?
The cut on his foot was about an inch and a half long, the doc said. He's all wrapped up now, and I'll take him in on Tuesday to get the bandage changed. He's walking around the house trying to shake the bandage off, but at least he's not chewing at it. If he removes it, I'll have to put on a new bandage. (I'll trim his claws first....)

Do you have any vet stories to share? I was going to write about the pit bull bitch (obviously over-bred by the look of her) who was in the cat side at the vet, and the two cats and four people the dog terrified, but it's just too sad. Tell some amusing, funny, or just good vet stories. :)

Daddy today

1. Poor Daddy! I hope his paw heals soon!

Off the top of my head, I guess I always have to warn vets and vet techs that Winky has a "nervous bladder" and doesn't like being picked up by strangers at all. She's actually pretty much afraid of anyone but me.

So, inevitably she pees all over people when I take her to the vet (which is often, as she's chronically ill). It's pretty embarrassing, but I guess it comes with the territory when you work in a veterinary office! :D

3. Poor Winky.
But I'm sure your vets are used to it, and I bet they don't mind.

2. Ace gets a front office cage.
Ace is a people cat. When we have to board him, he always get a pen in the front office where he can see people and talk to them. He's a real motormouth.

If there are no dogs in the waiting room, they give him the run of the place. This is for the dogs' protection, not Ace's.

4. I've put my Vet's kids through college!
Well, first there's Gypsy, my 14 year old black lab/collie with the bad hips..."worst hips I've ever seen" the Vet says after looking at the xray. She goes on pain killers and her kidneys start to shut down. She's now on a natural supplement and seems to be doing fine. I won't dwell on Raven, my Newfoundland, who passed away last fall.

Then there are the two cats...the Vet gives me tooth brushes and fishy tooth paste and tells me to start brushing their teeth...excuse me? These cats are 14 and 13 years old and I have never even thought of brushing their teeth and I can assure you, they will never allow me to brush their teeth!

Then there's the new puppy, Tinker. She loves the Vet...can't wait to run in there and see him...doesn't want to leave. I don't think he's stuck his finger up her ass yet...that will change her mind!

Actually, I love my Vet. He's a country doc who treats horses, cows, little critters and he is very committed. :-)

5. Baby Kitten
Today while pick up some yard debris on a piece of my property I heard a litlle squeak. First thought it was a bird but as I scouted around in a tall area of weeds leads into some woods I found a little kitten. No sign of any others or the mother. It possible she was dropped off since there is a road close by. My daughter and I took it with us to the pet store to buy it some food and the people there estimate it to be around 4 weeks. We think it is a little girl. She ate some wet kitten food and some kitten formula. She looks healthy. The problem is I already have two cats and a 6 month old puppy. My daughter has already named it Tabitha. I guess we now have a new member of the family. Any advice on this? I have never had a kitten quick so small and young. Are her chances good being that she is seperated from Mom so young?

6. Hi, Alleycat!
Tabitha's chances are excellent, even though she's been separated from her mother so early. Feed her primarily the kitten formula for a couple of weeks -- you may want to check with a vet on that, but that's what I'd do. Slowly wean her on to solid foods after she is older.

Make sure she is never in a place where she could get cold. Kittens need warmth -- and plenty of comfort. Let her cuddle a lot. Do get her to a vet for a once-over and shots, and be sure to have her spayed well before she could possibly go into estrus. The vet will let you know when.

Congrats on your new kitten!

9. I once found a 4 week kitten
It was during college and I had an old upright video game stored in our condemned garage. The stray chose the inside of the video game as a nursery for her three kittens. My discovery was fairly morbid, I found the kitten alone with his two dead (and partially eaten) siblings. Anyway, since I wasn't a cat person I gave the kitten to my roommate and she nursed and raised him. She had to do all the things a mother would normally do, including massaging his pooper to promote bowel movements. She used her finger, not her tongue. :P

7. Poor baby
He's a very cute cat and I hope he feels better soon. He reminds me of another cat I had when I was a teen - his name was Jonas.

Anyhow, I was just remembering a vet I saw only one time when I lived in Key Largo. I took my cat and my husband's to have Soft Paws put on their nails. He had an intern with him and all but ignored me but discussed the cats with the intern.

I was a little unnerved to begin with because he was wearing what I believed were bleaching trays. I thought he was pretty cheeky just bleaching his teeth while treating patients, but now I realize he was probably wearing Visaline braces.

During the exam, he told the intern he thought my cat was fat(!), and said my husband's cat had a big head!
Then he told the kid he would only see such big-headed toms in the Keys, but my husband's cat was a female - he should have noticed that, don't you think?

a friend of ours german spepard got run over by an unloaded flatbed trailer..we thought he was dead but we put him in a volkswagon and off to the vet-the vet wired up his jaw and after awhile he was ok-just a touch crazy..
our little dog got his skin ripped open on something so off to vet. the doc is a friend of ours and since it was after hours he let us assist-my wife held the dog while i "passed the gas" couple of minutes later he was all sewn up...it was really funny to watch him come out of the gas effects..well it wasn`t funny for him....ya we got a big discount off the bill.....
