Leaders or followers or...?
Feeling a little philosophical today, Got to wondering about how we classify people in our culture.

A few years ago a friend and I realized that the mass media liberal-conservative labels that while superficially helpful in identifying a person's political views were actually a hindrance to meaningful discussion. We developed a system of classification similar to politicalcompass.org except with an added dimension.

Today I'm wondering about leaders versus followers. In my own life I have felt that I was neither. Something off the one dimensional scale that those labels force one's thinking into.

So, I am curious as to what my fellow DUers think on this matter. Is it possible to be other than a leader or a follower? What word would you use to label this other? I don't think there's any right answer here, but that perhaps it would be an interesting topic for discussion.

1. There are also "givers' vs "takers"
Just my observation over the years.

2. Everybody is both giver and taker
At least that's what I've always felt. I know there are extremes on each side of that scale (George W. Bush vs. Mother Theresa) but most would fall pretty close to the middle. We all have our own unique gifts that we bring to the world and our own needs.

That's why I've always leaned toward left-progressive-liberal groups as they at least acknowledge that sentiment. It's also why I seem to find the current crop of neocon fascists so frightening since they seem to be a lodestone for those who fall at the extreme end of 'taker.'

3. A giver always!
Mom always said whatever you give from your heart you get back
a hundredfold. Wise woman she is. Still kicking at age 90...and
still able to go vote!

4. Considerate

Most people are very inconsiderate at the very trivial things in life. Says alot about who we are.
