Today was a sales tax free day in Missouri so I
upgraded to Mac OS 10.3 Panther....I'll let you know what I think once I get to playing on it. Right now the computer is charging my PDA.

I know states need sales taxes but today showed me how much we truly pay in sales tax. Wow! If only corporations paid their fair share then perhaps sales taxes and property taxes would not need to be so high.

What I don't understand about sales taxes is how is it not double taxation. I am paying taxes with money I earned and thus money that was already taxed via the payroll tax.

Oy vey!

1. I wonder if Corps would pay the same sales tax
under the "interesting new idea" of getting rid of income tax. If the company is a giant manufacturing firm, like a car company, think of all the outsourced products they need for assembly that would be taxed highly. This might be a way to get them to pay their fair share.

and hope that computer works out for ya.

Yeah, sure. Like they wouldn't immediately get loopholes written into the tax codes for their benefit.

4. It could still be an improvement
I would anticipate some sort of bulk discount like Sam's club for corporations (I wouldn't want to put anyone out of business), but it might redistribute things a little better. I'm not an accountant or tax lawyer so I really don't know.

5. Been eating that Right Wing spinach?

"Double taxation" is a new framing term dreamed up by the right wing.

Different taxes apply to different economic transactions. I don't know the first thing about it all, such as what all different taxation mechanisms exist or at what rates, but using their thought process we're potentially "Septuply Taxed", considering all the following:

  • Federal Income tax
  • Social Security tax
  • Medicare tax
  • State Income tax
  • City Income tax
  • Sales tax
  • Capital Gains tax

But we're *not* doubly, triply or septuply taxed. Each of these taxes simply takes a different slice, for a different reason, for a different bucket/account.

p.s. Thousands of votes were never counted, not even once. If their lips are moving, be suspicious.
