So I'm officially unemployed...
Knew it was coming though, for months. One of the guys with some pull in the company kept a couple of us on for an extra month to do all the closing (pull furniture, computers, etc.) Gave us a date to be finished, completion bonus if we met the date, and unlimited overtime. :headbang: So it only sort of sucked. Just finished 3 back to back 65 hour weeks. How do people do that all the time?! Then he came up and helped us load the semi trailers, and took us out to dinner and drinks on the company tab. I haven't been that drunk in years. LMAO, all in all, not a bad way to end the job...

So anybody know if I have to wait until after I get my last check to file for unemployment?

On the plus side, this does give me 3 weeks to hang out with my best friend before her wedding, and finally some time to really spend with our daughter! :bounce:

1. Apply from the minute you receive the notice
it takes time to process.

2. Little late for that
The notice was almost 6 weeks ago, most people left 4 weeks ago. I will get one more paycheck two weeks from now, so it should be ok. People around here have told me 2-3 weeks to process... Guess I'll see.

3. I Cannot Agree More
Get your paper work in order. Dot every i and cross every t. The application process takes about four to six weeks until you get a check.

Oh, and remember, "We've turned the corner".

4. go to the unemployment office Monday or Tuesday
in illinois you have to wait one week after your last check. if there is any vaction time that has to be included because that is considered wages. then you will recieve either one or two weeks after that.
if you can afford it for awhile stay off work for awhile but remember it is easier to get a job if you are working. but for the time being enjoy the wedding and spend time with your daughter..over the years of my unemployment periods, i spent alot of time with my kids and as i look back ,even though it was tough money wise,i don`t think i`d trade the money for all the time i spent with them. no amount of money can buy that....

5. Thanks for the advice and kind words
I wonder how similar Indiana laws are to Illinois. We shall see. I know it's easier to find more jobs when working, but we are waiting to hear about a couple of jobs for my husband, and will probably be moving if he gets one of them. There's not much around here, but I will work if I need to, outside my chosen field. We shall see. For the moment, I'm going to enjoy the next month, and see what comes after that!
