Best Literary Detective of All Time
Phillip Marlowe.

Only Easy Rawlins comes close to the greatness of Raymond Chandler's creation.

1. Marlowe is great
I would also nominate Miss Marple.

And I'm quite fond of Mma Precious Ramotswe of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, set in Botswana. :hi:

14. That pic is from Gasoline Alley Antiques!
Right off 65th and 25th NE in the Roosevelt District! I love that store - it's completely disorganized and nuts, but you can find a picture of Quincy in an old TV Guide there. What more could a person want!?

I'm actually getting ready to wind down
Gotta go to my six-year-old goddaughter's birthday party tomorrow.

The adults get to drink Champagne while the kids play. That's my kind of party. ;)

13. She's actually just like I was at that age
I have no idea how my genes got mixed up there. She always has her nose in a book and wants to either be president or a brain surgeon when she grows up. She sets small goals. :D

Or her childhood will be an empty shell in which we can only cast our empty aspersions. :o

21. Indeed
We must storm the gates demanding our hero appear on DVD.

They're finally putting out Kolchak: The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler on DVD; I think they come out next month (speaking of our childhood TV shows!).

I used to watch Night Stalker reruns on CBS during summer weeknights.

But it took 'The Christmas Story' to remake Darren McGavin in a whole new image. :D

26. Sam Spade, baby....
Not just Bogie and the Maltese Falcon....the radio show with Howard Duff was the best ever! With Lureen Tuttle as Effie, the rapport between them and the stories were awesome! Only Dick Powell as Richard Diamond comes close (think Murder My Sweet with a little more levity)... :hi:

3. Sherlock Holmes sucked
No don't flame me!

Seems I noticed in the books by Doyle, stereotypes abounded, and Holmes solved "whodunnit" by using stereotypes.

12. I have to go with Hammett's Continental Op
The existential detective (he didn't even have a name) The man was defined by what he did...The Continental Op.

Marlowe is right up there, though. But, perversely, I'm also fond of Spillane's Mike Hammer. Hammer certainly became mean while walking down those mean streets.

30. I second Easy Rawlins!
Walter Moseley writes great modern noir. The movie "Devil In A Blue Dress" is actually a nice example of modern noir film-making.

The book is much better. :-)
