Albums that took a long time to grow on you?
Two major ones for me were:

"Love You" by the Beach Boys--First time listening to this record, I hated every cheesy minute of it. About twenty listens later and I grudgingly had every song on there permanently burrowed into my skull. :D "Johnny Carson", "The Night Was So Young", "I'll Bet He's Nice" and "Mona" are all genius songs.

"Zenyatta Mondatta" by the Police. Boy did I think this was a huge pile when I first picked it up. But leaving out "Bombs Away" and "Behind My Camel" (and forgetting that "Man in a Suitcase" and "Canary in a Coalmine" are the same damn song), the album grew on me a lot over a few dozen listens.

1. Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking.
I first thought "who are these Junked-out Zeppelin Wannabes?". Then I saw them live, and I 'got it'. Then I couldn't get enough of the album--it's one of my all-time faves.

A true B grade celebrity, career wise, paying the circuit size of State fairs - so plain and honest in his persona that it makes him grade A on a level of true soul that few can attain.

3. Groovy Albums
:hippie: For me, I think it would have been "Cuando Los Angeles Lloran", by Mana. Now I am a huge Mana fan, and try to see them whenever I can. I love Mana. Mana, Mana, Mana aye !

turned me and my wife on to Mana after he got back from a mission to Mexico for the LDS church. Good stuff, that.

6. Mana, ooolala!!
Hi, I'm a newbie, and it's getting late here. Yes, critics say they are predictable, and maybe so, but there is always a social message to their songs, and quite poetic. Cuando Los Angeles Llorran is a song about Chico Mendez, who was murdered by rivals as he was trying to protect production and working conditions in the Rainforest of Brazil. There is a whole genre here, rock'n espanol, with many super groups. Not in the same mold at all, but another great is Lila Downs, who is performing next month in TJ, hope that we will get the chance to see her! This is a great thread, thank you and see you guys around.
