9. I have no choice
A family will be coming to my place on Saturday to turn their two cats over to me. They're moving to Norway. Today is the only chance I have for quality cleaning time. I have to be at work at 6 PM today for late night maintenance and have no break Monday through Friday.

12. Sunday
Making pickle relish with cucumbers, peppers and onions from my garden. I already have them chopped, next up is the soaking for two hours and then the canning into the jars.

Later I'll be grilling up a burger and using the relish that I didn't can.

A little light cleaning.

Book reading.

Some creative sewing.

13. when Mrs. and Little McLargehuge head over to the barn
to feed the rideable grass shark, I'll be working on my book. When they get back I'll make dinner and play/socialize until Arrested Development is on, we'll watch that, then socialize/play some more until they go to bed, then it's back to the book.

Basically it's a writing Sunday

16. I'm in bed and going to try to get some sleep
Have not been at all well for some time now. I was up until 4:00 a.m. and have had very little sleep. I am so tired and I ache really bad right now.

I plan to do nothing but try to heal if at all possible.

I was out last night and some man was following me. I was scared to go to my car. He was some nut case I think. Broke, homeless and a drunk it seemed as he was shaking a lot. It ruined my weekend, believe me.

19. thanks!
My problems are ongoing, but rest would really help. I've got some tranquillizers to take, etc. Hopefully they'll kick in soon as I am sleep deprived.

And that man ... I was ready to kick him in the arse had he been outside when I went back to my car. I asked the security people to watch for me when I walked to the car and got in it. Luckily the car has this thing where when you unlock the doors from a distance, the headlights come on and flash as do the interior lights.

The man was nowhere to be seen. He probably got picked up I hope. Luckily, this was about 15 miles from where I live so I don't suspect I'll see him again.

He wanted me to go into town with him and I told him NO. He was then asking me a lot of personal questions, etc. I basically gave him the heave ho so to speak. I have a wedding ring on my hand, but I guess that does not discourage some men if they are nuts! Yikes indeed! And ... I thought I was too old for this crap! Seems to be not the case. Hmmmmmmm ...

20. this - a little fuzzed out
my brother got married yesterday-

lots of beer, lots and lots!!!

It was very cool. talked a few old people into voting for kerry (Me: Kerrys message comes thru a media filter, don't listen to them. Read your voting manual, there is a world of difference between them, in almost all areas. Kerry has a plan to get us out of Iraq, boosh wants to stay there ten years or more. syria ya later!)

21. Going to go to the largest outdoor pool in Canada
It is 137 metres long (aprox 137 yards.) It will be a really strenuous day of reading, tanning and swimming.

I absolutely must do my dishes today.

Last night I saw some free Bard. A theatre organization in Vancouver has a camp for teens. At the end the do some performances. It was A Midsummer Night's Dream. They were really good, especially the girl who played Puck.

22. Bored bored bored!
This freaking vacation will never end! Almost 7 weeks now!

Actually, I'm not bored so much as tense about travel plans in a couple of days and worried about a couple people. I'm stuck in a house I hate, though, with nothing to do but worry obsessively. And overeat.

25. I visited the hurricane damage area
I took a trip to observe the hurricane damage today. I live on the outskirts of Brandon in Florida and all we saw was a little wind and maybe three inches of rain.

I drove East on SR 60 towards where the path of hurricane went. I did not see any signs of damage until Mulberry. I started to see evidence of tree limbs down and signs blown away and other minor damage. Between Mulberry and Bartow the evidence became more apparent. I saw many tree limbs down, signs, awnings and some house damage. Electricity was out. As I was coming out of Bartow, heading towards Lake Wales, I started to see significant damage. Power lines down, tree uprooted, houses and trailers with significant damage. I saw the most damage as I got to Lake Wales and turned north on Highway 27 towards Winter Haven. Many buildings damaged, uprooted trees and power lines down. I skirted Winter Haven and went to Haines City and then northeast to Loughman where I grew up. The house that I survived Hurricane Donna in 1960 had more damage to it now than in 1960.

Then I doubled backed to Winter Haven to visit some of my friends. I lived in Winter Haven for 25 years and know many people there. Many power lines down and significant tree damage. I went by a house I had built in 1984. The house was in good shape but oak trees that I had planted many years ago were uprooted. The trees were over three feet in diameter and stood 50 feet high or more.

Our friends in Winter Haven were cleaning the mess up and were miserable without electricity. A big thunderstorm was on the way that added to the misery index. They are expecting to be without power for several more days.

A couple of observations. I saw hundreds of power company truck crews working. They were from all over the Southeast. States like Louisiana, the Carolinas, Georgia, Mississippi, etc. I saw one staging area where there must have been over a hundred power line trucks. I suspect that was the night crews. From about Mulberry on it looked liked most gas stations were closed. The few stations I saw opened had long lines of cars.

It was an interesting trip. We dodged a bullet here in the Tampa metroplex. Our friends to the East took the bullet for us. God bless them and protect them.
