My name is not BRAIN!
I signed up for a Blockbuster membership this weekend, since they now have this thing where you can get unlimited rentals for $24.99 a month. Anyway, my name came out as "Brain," not Brian, on the membership card.

Anyone else have an oft-misspelled name?

1. Hey at least it's flattering!

My brother's name is Brian and he misspelled it as Brain as a child.

I have one of those names that can end in "i", "ie", "y", "ye" or "ey." I've seen all variations. Mine is the "ie" ending but no one ever gets it right. I don't even care anymore.

THANKS MOM. You just HAD to be different, huh????

2. I get Kristin, Kristen, Christen, Cristin, Christin, Christine, Kersten
Christeen, Cristeen, Kristeen, Kristine, Kristene, Kristan, Christian, Kristian, Cristan, Christan, Kriston, Kirston, Kerston, Cherston, Christon, and I've even got Kathleen.

But it is actually K-I-R-S-T-E-N

I don't see why it's so difficult for people.

5. Ugh!
My first name is Jennie. Just Jennie. Not a nickname for Jennifer. Not Jen. And certainly not spelled with a "y". It isn't a made-up name, but I have such hell trying to get people to spell, pronounce (it ain't "Jeannie"), and call me by my given name!

6. I get called Linda all the time instead of Lisa
Because my last name starts with "lind..." people automatically call me Linda. I really hate it. :(

8. A salesman where I work is named Brian...
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 06:49 PM by Hardhead
One of his customers faxed over something addressed to "Brain," and the name stuck. Even better, he hates it, so we keep calling him that.

I get called Jeffrey a lot. Jeffrey was a bully on my 1st-grade playground who picked on me. My name is Jefferson or Jeff, thank you. Or John Jefferson (in Texas, where the first two names are used to address someone). I hate Jeffrey.

9. Stacie with an i-e here
At work, I have maybe 10 aliases for my e-mail address -- you screw up my first name and/or my last name in any logical permutation, chances are, it'll still get to me.

11. MIne is just weird...
It started back when I was about 10 years old and had to get a prescription filled. The pharmacist looked the paper and read back Amy Edgewood? My dad said, "No, Edge****."

Pharmacist: "Edgewood."
Dad: "No! Edge****!"
Pharmacist: 'Right, Edgewood."
Dad: NO! EDGE****!!!"

The label on the prescription did, indeed, read "Amy Edgewood".

Jump ahead 8 years to my first credit card, damned if it wasn't printed out to "Amy N Edgewood." They even got my middle initial wrong...and the last four letters of my last name do not look even remotely like "wood"...

12. both my first and last names are misspelled and mispronounced
but I'd rather have that than a name like Jane/John Smith. I would imagine those people are always getting their records mixed up with other people's, by credit card companies, etc.

13. Mine is always butchered
My last name is Dawes, pronounced like "Doz", yet I get all kinds of variations like Daws, Davies (a popular one since people thing the w looks like "vi").

Having to say my name over the phone is always fun, especially in the age of 99% of phone operators being in India. I get Doss, Dawen, Doz, all kinds of hilarity.
