3. The problem is the differing opinions on...

where these people stand on the political spectrum.

To hear some people on here and elsewhere tell it, these millions of non voters are all radical leftists who are not voting because we don't have a sufficiently liberal dem candidate, and if we nominate a sufficiently liberal candidate, it will miraculously inspire all of these non-voters to vote while at the same time not turn off anyone else who may be moderate or independent.

At least thats the conventional wisdom I've heard. Be nice if it were true, but....
