Poll question: What rock band was still great after a major line up change.

These are all the bands I could think of. If at all possible. You can ask me to add more.

1. They Might Be Giants changes line up constantly...
Of course, they mean to. They only have 2 members, then they hire free-lance musicians to work with them for recordings and concerts... Does that count?

2. The Rolling Stones did their best work after Brian Jones was "asked...
to leave" Unfortunately, they later became a sad self parody after Mick Taylor left. Ron Wood is a nice guy and all, but...

3. The Stones, of course!
They were great with Brian Jones, great with Mick Taylor (Honky Tonk Woman is his masterpiece), and great with Ronnie Wood. Apparently they are doing just fine without Bill Wyman.

4. You forgot about Genesis!
They did a bunch of great stuff in the 70s after Gabriel left.

8. Yes.
THey had Syd Barrett early on. He flaked out and left. Then Roger Waters left in the mid 80's and David Gilmour took over leadership of the band.

6. AC/DC
Their best albums came right around the death of Bon Scott, both right before and after. Highway to Hell was one of AC/DC's best albums and Back in Black was THE best AC/DC albums. For those about to Rock and Let There be Rock are also good albums. Brian Johnson filled in as admirably for Bon Scott as any body could.

7. I'll go with the Eagles
Bernie Leadon was a good influence on their early songwriting, but he had a breakdown on the road and Don Felder was brought in amid ugly feelings. He had already done the rave-up slide work for 'Already Gone,' and the remaining Eagles felt he was a great fit. Leadon's softer, country influence was all but left behind: the band wanted Hits, and Felder delivered the blazing-hot guitar work Henley & Frey were looking for.

This also led directly to them bringing in the 5th Eagle, Joe Walsh, who rounded out the band and provided not just another hot guitar but an accomplished singer/songwriter in his own right with a good voice and a keen sense of harmony. It certainly didn't hurt that he fucking rocks. Joe is still the man.

9. Pink Floyd and Dead Kennedies
Gilmore has made some good shit since the court case, but I think Rogers should've won. The Kennedies are currently touring with a singer, emphatically disagree with Jello's accusation of them wanting to sell "Holiday in Cambodia" to Levis Corp., and I hear they are a very, very good show.

12. The Craig Fuller years of Little Feat had some killer moments
I know it was Lowell George's brainchild from the beginning, but this was a real BAND...they earned the right to go on after his passing.

14. King Crimson
Of course Robert Fripp was sort of a constant but some really great musicians have spent time in that band.
