It's pouring rain and I can't get my dogs out to
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 10:37 AM by Gloria
pee! They've been holding it over 12 hours!
Back East, when I only had the one, we'd get him out in his raincoat and run around with an umbrella overhim...but now with two more "desert dogs".....even Slick, the stray, won't go out. Opened the door to our little courtyard, he took one look, and back to the couch!

How the heck long can dogs hold it????? Not to mention the poop...

1. Mine would run out, quickly pee, then come in and shit on the carpeting
I HATE Rainy days. I've a rescued dog that has some brain injury from an incident with a UPS truck and some esteem problems from being beaten in a former life.

He'll go pee, but poop is another story. The only time its a problem is on rainy days. We were lucky this morning - if he had to poop he didn't - now he is kenneled and won't poop there.

2. Even with an umbrella and treats?
We had a beagle that would cower when he heard thunder and would hold it for HOURS AND HOURS, but even he would go out eventually. Keep an eye on the weather and when the rain lets up a bit, open the door and go out yourself. If they see you standing in the rain, they're more likely to follow suit. It may mean changing into dry clothes for you, but I'd rather do that than clean up a mess.

3. Well, you don' t want them to go in the house.
Do you have some newspaper around? Maybe you can get them to go on that even though it will be messy but at least it won't be directly on your floor. My pooch is the same way if it pours. I have to hold a big umbrella over him while he goes. God forbid I slip up and let him get wet.

5. LOL Spoiled pup!
That's great. You're such a great mommy(daddy?). My bf's dog won't go out on the grass when it's wet. He's such a big baby. He'll just do his business on the concrete slab.

6. I had the one out before it even started pouring...

I stood out there and begged him. He sniffs the air and decides it's not right for him!

Man, it's crazy!

More bizarre, perhaps...I have a mother who doesn't know how to use windshield wipers anymore. The Passat has the same set up as the old Jetta, but she has decided they are different and she can't use them! Lack of practice, I guess....of course, she's 82 and a rabid freeper type...so there may be some sort of loss of faculties....
