Guitar players: Ever use a Whammy Pedal?
And if so, are they worth having?

1. Depends on what you play.
Make and model/Style of music?

2. Whammy pedal?
Is that like a pedal that gives the effect of a whammy bar? So in effect a tremolo pedal?

3. Yeah, it's an odd piece of equipment.
Takes a while to coordinate the foot movement with the times you want to bend pitch. Plus, in what context would the sound of this pedal come in handy? Free Jazz/experimental-type music? Pop/rock? Funk? Apart from some Jam Band-type rock, I can't see where you'd use this pedal for anything. I used to be a pedal freak until I realized that I was the only one entertained by the far-out sounds I emitted. The other guys in my band used to try to hide my pedals!

I preferred Roland's hamonizer and a Kohler tremelo bar, myself.

4. I play hard rock stuff, but my guitars don't have locking trems...
This seems like a more sensible way to go about creating those tones...

7. Should be easy to get a Kohler locking tremelo installed.....
I knew a guy who had one installed on a '72 SG. I think the main obstacle is getting a proper spring/weighting system put in the body of the guitar.

I had a Kohler locking trem on a Peavey guitar in the nineties and I never ever had a problem with it and it stayed in tune like a dream (And I was doingg massive Zappa-esque whammy hits all the time....)

5. Considering I hardly ever use my whammy bar anyway
I can't imaging needing one. Whah-Whah pedals on the other hand are often very useful.

6. I saw Elliot Sharp use one live
and he got highly cool sounds out of it. So I got a loaner from a friend who worked at a music store and checked it out - it definitely has potential if you take the time to finesse the thing. I didn't wind up keeping it - it just wasn't for me, but there's a lot that can be done with it.

9. Oooooh....Eliott Sharp!
I love E#. Just yesterday, I was listening to "Larynx:" great album, horribly produced.

I always put "Hockit," from "the Seventies" on mix tapes for people to confuse and disorient them.

has whammy effects, harmonizer, droptune, divebomb, and 2 detuing settings for chorus like effects. one thing tha dissappointed me, is that when you rock the pedal its not like a wah, its not very smooth, most of the time its all on or all off, but for the stuff im trying to mimic/come up with, sudden shifts are what im looking for. if your tight on cash i wouldnt get it now... its not a must have but its alot of fun.
