Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 08:42 PM by HEyHEY
the editorial I wrote abot Meth being a bad thing to have in town. Oddly, all of them weren't even from town, one was from Washington DC....

So, either figure a DUer put em up to it, or one person in town did. Or these people surf the web looking for anti hard-drug fascists like me.

6. lol
how are Bush and Meth similar?

I'm sure in many ways - but what comes to mind at present is that neither needs help in being demonized - both quite effective at demonizing selves.

Got a link to the story, pressman?

22. You forgot having your apartment condemned and declared a HazMat
cleanup site and losing all of your possessions that can't go through the washing machine!

That's the best part! And of course, no financial compensation is necessary, it's so much fucking fun!

13. Well, according to this guy....
If we legalized it, it wouldn't be so dangerous...I can buy that argument for cocaine...even heroin....but like we're gonna start giving out legal meth

14. why not
why would legal coke be OK but not legal speed? I'd be happy with (atleast) the decriminalisation of all drugs, cutting out the black market, the people bubbling up dangerous brews in basements and removing the threat of arrest for people who need help.

Unfortunately some sad acts will inevitably fuck up on any available intoxicant, most people wont. Prohibition on alcohol didn't work, neither does prohibition on any other drug.

Why is methamphetamine a different matter?

19. depends on how much you take
the damage is generally a result of bad speed - the problems with mixing chems is that even if you know what you're doing and have the right ingredients (which the makers often don't) when you mix chem A with chem B as well as getting the desired chem C you also get traces of chem's D, E, F & G, some of those are toxic. Legal pharma manufacturers have very expensive and complex filters to remove the traces - speed labs don't. Remove the dodgy illegal labs and you remove most of the harm, not all obviously but have you seen what alcohol does to the brain, liver etc?

Also on the crazy violence level - only if you take a lot or have a particularly bad reaction to it - much like alcohol, I know some peopel who are really revolting after a few drinks. Many people take speed occasionally and are not violent at all.

Drugs have no moral value - one isn't "worse" than the other, the amount of use and the purity matter.

23. here is a little story for you
I was once in a New York hotel with a bunch of my rock and roll pals. I had really bad cramps, shall we say. One of my guy friends says, here try some of this ( meaning crystal meth - I think that's what it was- is crank the same thing? ) I say, right, that will make me feel better.( sarcasm) Needless to say, I did yoga instead. How's that for a ridiculous (anti)drug story? I have one and usually only one, story, about each of several drugs, and that should tell you something. And once was usually enough.

Most of those drugs are really nasty and do no one any good. Hash though, sigh, that was a different story. But that was when I was young and foolish. :)

18. We had a meth bust in town last night.
Fiance and I knew it was coming though because we had heard on the scanner the night before that the local police were smelling a chemical smell around a house.

Sure enough, last night we had Ok highway patrol, local cops, county sheriff and our county's drug task force surrounding that particular house. Why people think they can get away with manufacturing meth intown in our small town just bumfuzzles me. Are these people really that deluded in thinking no one is going to smell their lab?

Meth is a real problem in rural areas in Oklahoma. Recently a law was passed restricting the sale of OTC medication like sudafed, etc. Now only pharmacies can carry it and it's hidden behind the counter where they have to ask the pharmacist for it. There's also a limit to the number of boxes one can buy.

So, now all of the meth makers are driving to Texas to get their cold medicine.

21. Come on...
I didn't read the posting your referring to but we are all somewhat intelligent adults here, I hope...Have any of you seen what this drug does to people, even a horribly addicting drug as cocaine doesn't touch what Meth does to a person. What a fucking horrible drug...I think that pot should be legal, I'll go with that, but lets support getting these hard, life ending, shit drugs off our streets and away from our children...
