Am I the only white person who thinks the "Blue Collar Comedy Show"
Is the worst thing to come around for ages?

1. The only one I find funny is Ron White
And he isn't involved in this venture, is he?

3. No he isn't
Which is why it isn't worth watching.

10. Nope, just that one concert show
Most of them aren't that bad in concert humor, but as sketch comedians? PEEEEEEE-EEEEEEEEEEEEEW!

And he's the only thing that's been funny on this entire show.

I love his Tater Salad bit, and his mockery of homophobes and hunters. :D Hunters I don't have any big gripe with, but he points out how ridiculous the activity can seem.

4. Being critical of it without seeing it is a different thing
At least watch a show to get an informed opinion of how bad it is. ;-)

Roseanne (and others) have done brilliant "blue collar" comedy that crosses all lines (like Pryor and Chappelle do with black culture). But this new show just plays up to the idea of BC whites being exactly what everyone accuses them of being--ignorant.

7. Additionally, I don't believe any of these people have previous
sketch comedy experience. Being a Stand-up doesn't mean you can act, unlike a lot of network programmers believe.

9. I just can't bring myself to watch it...
I really can't stand that Larry the Cable Guy and even Jeff Foxworthy gets on my nerves.

I agree with you about the other commedians...they are what I like to call talented...the others just play on hackneyed stereotypes and are just plain unfunny to me.

I watched it a while back and found it to be fairly bigoted.

16. That's it EXACTLY
It's a celebration instead of pointed satire at one's own culture.

18. Jeff has at least paid his "dues"
And I don't think I've ever heard a racist thing out of his mouth once. The "You might be..." is a money-making Schick, so I won't bad-mouth it. At least he's making fun of his own, and in that case, he's not celebrating those quirks.

Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 09:28 PM by jpgray
Shrill and noisy with lame recurring characters. Of course, SNL at this point is much the same. Where are my Kids in the Hall? :(

LOVE that show; i really like the intro where some guy is pounding the shit out of another, and he stops, looks at the camera, and says "whoa, deja vu!"

17. The did a movie...
.... and IMHO it was pretty funny. All standup, and yeah, Ron White is a great comic whose talents far exceed this genre.

I've seen a couple episodes of the TV show, and yes it is not that good. But it does have its moments, and frankly every other stereotype is lampooned in one sort of comedy or another, I don't know why hicks should be any different :)

24. That wasn't the Hicks...
... I was referring to, but then I can say that Bill Hicks is one of my top 3 favorites comics of all time :)

I like White because he does the whole Southern gentleman who isn't really much of a gentleman so well. He's more than just a comic he is an entire character and anyone who has grown up in the South would recognize him :)

20. I think I just figured out my major problem
Who is the guy who has the cut-off sleeves in everything he does?

OH FUCK...I just found out...It's Larry, the Cable Guy.

Yeah, he's what's ruining this for me. Maybe I should start a new thread saying "I'd like Blue Collar Comedy, if only they'd get rid of that Fucking Cable Guy person".?
