Could NASCAR ever be an Olympic sport?
I'd rather not have a debate here about whether or not NASCAR is a sport, nor do I want to talk about the political/cultural implications of NASCAR in the US.

Rather, I'm curious to know if there are enough countries that could participate to have a NASCAR Olympic event. Would there be any other impediments to competition that I'm missing?

1. Isn't round track racing...
Kind of unique to US/Canada. It seems like the rest of the world is either rally or road course.

2. No, very unlikely.
the general rule of thumb is that at least 20 nations need to participate in a sport before it can be included in Olympic competition. And there is a long list of other sports vying for consideration which would put NASCAR way down the pecking order in any case.

The fact that it's a mechanised sport would probably disqualify it as well. I can't think of any motor sport in the Olympics.

8. Well it's true
Neither one are actual sports yet we like to put them in that catagory because a lot of people like them like they are.
