2. and if you are just going by the star,
it doesn't mean they have never donated. There is a time limit on the star (although I don't know what it is)

24. SSD checks are cut on the 3'rd of the month
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 10:59 AM by VoteDemocratic2004
SS Checks are cut on the 1'st and I don't have a star because I am on disability and going to College.

I am planning on sending a small amount of what I have left.

I am going to College so that I can get off of disability and I feel for you there is never enough money to live on.

When you have to make a choice of either paying for a bus pass or walking and you walk so that you can have some extra cash in your pocket your pretty much broke.

I hate being broke it's a pain in the behind and I don't know what I am going to do with my first check when I find a job after College. It will probably be more then I make in a few months.

Good Luck!

Not having a star doesn't mean you have never donated.

9. Donating to DU is a voluntary act...
it is not required for membership, nor should it be used as a guidepost for people.

The administration has been very open about this, and understands that there are individuals out there that simply cannot afford to donate, (or just don't for various other reasons). It is not an easy thing for some to donate, and the amount varies that people can donate as to their means or their circumstances.

I would not judge anyone on this board because of their having been acknowledged by having a 'star' or not. It is not necessarily the number of posts, but rather the quality of the posts, and the dedication to the removal, by legal means, of the bush administration from office.

:)

or..... ya know what.... never mind.

13. I would be really pissed if I donated, and then I was banned
A lot of people have been banned in the past, and many of them were donors, so I am wary of donating. I like to speak my mind....

15. We all like to speak our minds...and the star is not insurance against...
banning.

I can understand that many people can't afford to donate, but to say that you WON'T donate because you don't want to waste your money if you are banned is a silly excuse.

I'm not shaming anyone for not donating, but this reason just doesn't hold water.

19. I did'nt mean to start a fight but.....
I'm new here so thanks for the warm welcome. If you enjoy this site enough to post 1000X I was just curious why you would'nt support it. Nothing complicated , I did'nt know your star was removed after a certian amount of time. Makes sense. I also realize some can't afford it. I'll take the heat as long as John Kerry is sworn in January 2005.

21. Don't assume.
I've donated at least twice, but my star expired a couple months ago. I suppose I could've donated again then, but I gave money to two Democrats running for Congress instead, Jeff Seeman (former DU'er) and Dave Thomas in my district.

I live in a district in Colorado that was won by a Republican by under 200 votes in 2002. Maybe if I'd given money to the Democrat there last time rather than DU we'd have had one more Democrat in Congress.

29. I sent food to a friend last month & paid their rent
I didn't even get a thank you back but my heart tells me that he would have been homeless and hungry by now and his cat has enough food to do for 2 months.

I have a heart of gold and I have taken tons of abuse off of him.

He doesn't know how far that put me behind and like I said he never said thanks but I didn't do it for a thank you I did it because that's the type of person that I am.
