Sexist?-Bikini clad dancers stir up storm at Olympic beach volleyball
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=565280§ion=news

ATHENS (Reuters) - A bikini-clad team of cheerleaders at the Olympic beach volleyball tournament are not proving popular with everyone.

Australian player Nicole Sanderson was not impressed. "It's disrespectful to have other girls in bikinis out there dancing," she said while her partner, Sydney gold medallist Natalie Cook, said that if there were men out on the court dancing it could equal things out.

The "dance team", which performs in between sets, matches and at most time-outs, is a common sight on the international beach volleyball tour but rare at traditional Olympic events.

On the first day of the Athens preliminary-round matches, the dancers revved up the boisterous, beer-drinking crowd of several thousand who clapped, cheered and sang along to "Highway to Hell" between points.

And you thought you were going to get out of this thread without a picture :spank:

Of course I sleep, very very little though. I havent been assigned anything so I am studying for my permit too and doing work when I get assigned it. BTW girls volleyball won and I declared victory today, anyone who voted for it is invited to the victory party. Yeah I do sleep, a ton on weekends, I stay up late to do dress rehearsals.

Maybe practice driving while there possibly because I apply for my permit tommorow. Insomaniac not a vampire heh, really if I had it my way I would be getting up at noon everyday, I wouldnt be on as much if my PC games worked too heh, damn computer but the lounge is so fun.

I got plenty of other stuff to be teased about too. Sure something will come up though but I want someone else to be the butt of the lounge tonight, its too tiring to be that on your own.

26. hey morning
nah I had a burger last night from BK.I am a somewhat insomniac but it helps me prepare for college ironically enough. bolonga, speedos :scared: but in the end all is good, because girls volleyball triumphed over men's swimming by a nice margin, 57-40.

I don't usually like BK, but if you like chicken, their "Tendercrisp chicken sandwich" is actually pretty good.

Havent decided on lunch yet today though. Had my typical meal of a sandwhich, fries, and a coke yesterday. I may have Chinese today I guess. Even if you didnt vote, supporters of women's volleyball over men's swimming are allowed to celebrate, its just like being able to celebrate when Bush goes even if you didnt vote.

32. Dude, fast food will kill you if eaten on a regular basis...
Sure, you're young so you won't feel it yet but it'll catch up with you. Have some soup or a salad or something every once in a while (fries don't qualify as "eating your vegetables").

Coffee got me jittery in the morning and messed with my stomach, but tea worked great when I didn't have time to eat.

10. What? Beach Volleyball?
I strongly diagree. Not only is it a different game than the "regular" indoor gym volleyball it also is extremely popular and excluding it would keep some great athletes who prefer to play this form of the game from the competition.

18. Fair enough.
If it were up to me, I'd cut the olympics back to the track and field events, plus a couple of related sports. I never understood why they had soccer and volleyball.

7. Cheerleading is an anachronistic
pseudo-sport left over from a time when women could only be supporters and not participants. It's complete bulls*** and they keep trying to turn it into a real sport by trying to make it more about the stunts and less about the cheering. It hangs on because it gives men something to look at if the game is boring.

It needs to die a much deserved death, IMO. :eyes:

You asked....

40. How did you guess?
I have to admit I'm not much for sports of any kind, at least the big corporate BS they've become anyway.
I just have always felt that it's pretty transparent to have a "sport" which only exists to cheer on another sport - and it screams the old "behind every man - there's a supportive woman" who is right where she should be- supporting him and staying in the background.

16. There are efforts to make it an Olympic sport
Yes, cheerleading as an Olympic sport. The problem is, it's really only ever seen in the US, which makes it tough to get into an international competition. I hope I never live to see the day when there's an Olympic gold medal for cheering.

It would be my only reason to watch Golf on TV, which I would otherwise describe as a kind of torture. It could help baseball too.
