AFV-Injuries are funny?
It used to be that cute little cocker spaniels and wobblely babies were funny; and even people jumping out of unforseen places, but nowadays, seniors slipping on concrete floors, children sledding into deep, icy creeks are what are being shown on AFV (America's Funniest Videos). Over and over I watched in horror recently as the audience laughed as they rolled the tapes. Surely, I thought, some of these people had concussions, or hip fractures at the least. Since when is THAT funny?????
I wrote to ABC, but did not receive a reply.
Does anyone else have a problem with this, or it is just me?

1. No problem here...
It's not like ABC went knocking on people's doors stealing the videos from them...

2. I totally agree
I saw that show recently and was just disgusted that people would laugh at some of the injuries to people. But on the same note, they DID send them in so are obviously okay.

4. I figured they were Freepers
They would find it amusing others are injured. Kind of like a spectator sport.
Maybe the person submitting the video did so to help pay for the medical treatments. Ya think?

5. Somebody yanked Bob Saget's chain on this once
They were showing a video of some fool engaging in behavior that was almost certainly going to result in a pratfall or some other physical misfortune, and they froze the tape so Bob Saget could ask a member of the studio audience what he thought was going to happen next. The selectee, a very mild-mannered bespectacled gentleman in a suit, replied "I'm anticipating a fatality."

I'm telling you, it was the funniest thing *I* ever saw on that show! You're right that some of the clips do look like people must have gotten seriously hurt, but I never hear anyone laugh at those -- there's always a gasp of horror. Still, though, I see your point about the dubiousness of this type of entertainment.

But why should we be surprised? We've adopted so much of Roman behavior that we're doubtless just acclimating ourselves to the eventual feeding of homosexuals and various other antisocial parasites to the lions, or mismatching them in gladitorial combat.

(I myself do not consider homosexuals to be antisocial parasites -- I think most folks will understand how I'm using the phrase here).
