An alleged peeping Tom remains in the intensive care unit after reportedly being assaulted with a tree branch, NewsChannel5 reported.

Officials said Mario Russo, 44, was attacked after he was spotted outside a bedroom window wearing his pants around his ankles and watching a 5-year-old girl who was sleeping outside the Bunker Ridge Apartments.

Russo was reportedly hiding in bushes.

Police said after he was discovered a group of six people, include the girl's mother, aunt and their boyfriends attacked him and brutally beat him for more than an hour.

I can see knocking him around a bit then calling the police... but to continue to beat on him for that long is vigilantism and as a society we have to be careful about crossing that line.

Vigilante justice is wrong. I can understand the urge those people felt. If I caught someone harming my babies in any way, you'd have to hold me back. But, that is what the justice system is for. The peeping tom should have been arrested, charged, and found guilty by his peers, and served a sentence.

On edit: I just saw that one of them sodomized him with a branch. That goes beyond vigliante justice. It would be a huge miscarriage of justice if that person is not convicted.

According to a harrowing police report, officers found Russo covered in blood and crumpled on the grass outside the apartment building where the assailants were arrested last Saturday. With his pants at his ankles and his face swollen, Russo was found with "a twig inserted into his rectum and there was false teeth laying in the grass next to the male," according to cops. A witness told investigators that he heard a female attacker yelling, "put it in his ass, he wants it in his ass."
