Has anyone heard from any FL DUers? Trumad? madfloridian?
I'm sorry if this is a dead horse topic, but we just got our cable back up after the storm and I've been out of touch.
I'm in Volusia county, we got the ass end of the hurricane, the eye passed right over us. Tremendous tree damage on our property, 15 large trees blown over, but no physical or structural damage. Our neighborhood streets are all single lane roads for huge piles of big trees.

I was in the ER today getting fluids for heat exhaustion, but thats nothing compared to horror stories I've heard. Seems like the casualties keep happening in the storms aftermath. While I was in the ER, an hysterical lady carried an unconscious little kid still wearing diapers into the place. Seems the storm had blown down a pool fence and the kid was in the water, I never heard if he made it or not.

have any FL duers been posting?

3. Hi, more going on around some areas than national news is telling.
I have a brother and his family in Orlando, and they had a huge tree fall on their house. It is still on their house, as the companies are way too backed up to bother. We drove around today, being careful not to use up gas. One house had a monstrous oak which split and crushed it, and the other half crushed 3 cars. Still there also.

We were only out of power 3 hours, but we live near downtown in the historical district....usually get restored first.

There is a whole lot not being told. It makes me sad and upset.

5. There are too many stories to tell
I'm glad your OK, We just got a call from my m-i-l. Her friend who lives in Orange City, well, I guess they had the generator hooked up to the fuse box or somesuch, and when the power came back on, the surge blew the whole place up! They made it out OK

One thing I have learned is the aftermath is just as dangerous as the storm itself.

Have we been hearing from any other FLA DUers? I checked the state forum, nothing.

From what I've seen here, the destruction to the south and West must be horrific

8. We have a DEC and DFA mailing list to keep up on things.
Most of us have power, the ones who are the worst are in Eastern Polk County, like Lake Wales, and in Hardee County to the south of us. I see so many awful pics, and it is hard to deal with. I almost feel guilty for having A/C and water and gas for the car.

Several of our group from the Lake Wales area went to stay with family elsewhere until power was turned on again. Nearly a week, and it does not seem much progress has been made at all.

Check out some pictures and stories at our paper:

Here is one from near downtown. No clean up yet. Neighbors left their homes during storm to get the guy out of his house. It is now settling in deeper into the house. He is 80 years old.

6. I'm just north of you
in Flagler. We had no damage to our property. The power was out for 13 hours. My mom lives in a mobile home park in Volusia. They decided to not evacuate because of their dogs. Not much damage, a few shingles blown off is all.

So many sad stories. It's heartbreaking. My sons school is collecting for the victims and I was making a mental list in my head last night while I was laying in bed - thinking of things I could gather up and it just hit me. People have lost so much. I cannot imagine.

My thoughts go out to all the people that have been affected by this disaster.

7. I've been busy working
That's the excuse I give everyone. ;-)

I'm in Sarasota county and thank my lucky stars that Charley decided to make a sharp right turn. My brother lived in Punta Gorda, though, and I had a good friend on Pine Island (I'm sure he made certain he was somewhere else).

I feel so bad for those who got the brunt of the storm that was heading for my living room on its way to Tampa Bay. Since I work more hours than I think, I should send down food. Food I've got. Money is in short supply no matter how many hours I work.

I think I love the strangers of the disaster more than the relatives, but not more than the friends. Where are you, Randy?
