Need early morning advice on women/dating.
There is this very nice, and entirely un-cute, librarian over at the NIEHS library which I have to go to for professional literature searches. We've been talking for a little over three years now and are quite friendly and I am thinking I need to ask her out for dinner. THe very weird thing is I have no clue what her name is. I'm pretty sure she dosen't know mine either. :)

The advice I need is "how should I proceed in this asking her out thing?"

1. I'd say something like..
"I hope you don't mind this, but I really enjoy our conversations and I think you are a really interesting person; would you like to go out for (insert whatever meal/coffee you think would be ok)sometime?"

5. Ever try explaining to someone why you are attracted to...
...another person, when they simply can't see what there is about that person? My tastes do not align with anyone else in my close circle of associates.

8. I Got It
Happens to me sometimes. Unfortunately, I usually go with the women that I have no chance with. I hope that changes soon.

3. Well...
"What time do you get off work?" is a tried and true opening line. Then suggest that you go out for coffee or some non-committal sort of thing. It can become a dinner date after that, but having a cup of coffee would be a great way to talk first.

6. Well I know what to NOT do
Don't write her a letter
and DON'T tell you that you like her until AFTER you've kissed etc!

11. My biggest advice... don't slip that "un-cute" thing ...
into your conversation with her. If she's cute to you, then she's not un-cute.

12. Would this be better?
"easy on the eyes"

:)

I find it most amusing when I get called that, but somehow I don't think she'd feel the same way.

13. Yes, that's a definite improvement.
Why wouldn't she appreciate being easy on the eyes?

14. Breaking the ice:
Next time you see her:
"I'm really embarrassed that you've been so helpful for the last three years and it's taken me this long to find my manners. My name is DarkPhenyx." and extend your hand.

5 will get you 10 she'll shake your hand and reply with a smile and something like "Hi, I'm Sally Smith".

If she's a little slow on the uptake (for whatever reason a lot of people seem to be now), you can say (with a BIG smile) "and your name is?"

Now the ice is broken.
Depending on the reception you get, you could ask her if you could buy her a cup of coffee (or lunch) in appreciation.
If that feels like it's moving a little fast, wait till the next time you see her.
