I'm having a hard time picturing a group of people tugging a rope for an Olympic medal. :-)

Sweden/Denmark won the tug of war in 1900.

Notice the winner of the second tug-of-war

8. My answer...
James Brendan Connolly, USA, who took the triple jump with a leap of 13.71 metres. He won the silver medal, which was the top award at the time.

I'm guessing the bonus is B.

10. ***
Correct Connelly well done. Triple jump WAS the BONUS.

The very FIRST Olympic champion was a chef named Corubus who won a race in 776 B.C.

11. Woohoo!
Do I get to drape a flag round me shoulders and run a victory lap of my sitting room?

12. Whatever you want
Just don't party all night like Connelly did the night before.

NBC told the story last night-The US arrived in Athens and a huge party was thrown for them (expatriots?). Connelly found out the next morning that he was competing THAT day-there was an 11 day difference in the calendars used in the US and Greece at the time (Connelly thought he had 11 days to rest from the trip).
