Does anyone have a PDA? Looking for recommendations
I used to have a Handspring Visor Deluxe and really liked it a lot, but it ate batteries like cookies. :-)

So with my new job I'm looking for another one. What do you recommend?

1. how is your job going
Supernova? Hope it is good!

I was going to buy my husband a Handspring, but we never got around to it. So I have no knowledge of that issue.

8. Blackberry..
DO you still need the server backend for the blackberry, or are they now standalone?

I remember looking into them a while ago, but the need to licence and run the servers was a big negative for me.

I have a Dell Axim X5 and it's great.. a colleague of mine just bought the new X30 and it's even better. Good prices too.

I bought my boss (I make the IT purchases in the department) a Palm Tungsten T when it came out, which we recently upgraded to a T2. Very happy with the T2, takes it all over the world without problem.. battery life is excellent too. The only downside is the relatively high price.

edited to add the zero in x30

10. I was just looking at the Treo
which is the phone/organizer/web combo.

I don't know that I need to surf the web and send pics, but I do like the idea of a phone/organizer.

11. Convergence..
That is definately the way it's moving.

The only thing to look at is how limited you will be when it comes down to extra software.

With PocketPC and PalmOS there are thousands of useful programs out there.. I'm not so sure what the situation is with the Treo (it uses Symbian, doesn't it?).

12. No, Treo is the Palm OS
I used to use a program called Quick Budget. Really helped me figure out how to save and use my money.

but it is pricey, at $449, plus your monthly phone and web fees. :P

9. Just got a Samsung i700 cellphone/PDA
Still fiddling around, learning what it can do, but I love it so far. Very intuitive -- I haven't even felt the need to run the User Guide disc that comes with it.

22. Got mine through Verizon...
... since I've been a subscriber for years:

I've heard that it will also be offered by Sprint at some point, too.

BTW, here's the Samsung site:

21. I have a Pocket PC 2002 PDA (NEC P300)
that I bought because the refurbished price was cheap. It's a nice machine that allows me to play with the aplications that are specific to that OS. But the battery life is "not good". I bought the supplementary battery cradle which also gives me a PCMIA slot, but it's no longer shirt pocket-sized.

But FAR more apps (including much freeware) are available for the Palm OS. Programmers must LOVE that OS! I have two Sony PDAs that are Palm OS (T615C & T665C) that I dearly love, and use in a complementary manner. I'm going to upgrade directly to the Sony Clie TH-55. It's got features that won't stop. In particular, the dynamic CPU speed & voltage management means that the battery life is 3 or 4 times better than any of the others. On the CPU chip are also DSP chips as well as one for graphics. It should do very well in those categories despite it's relatively modest CPU speed (8~123 MHZ). I have no real need for a wireless internet PDA, but the WiFi feature should come in handy at all the WiFi HotSpots here in Seattle. I would suggest that you Google all the various user reviews of the TH-55.

24. I'm pretty happy with my Sony P900 smartphone

I think a smartphone is the way to go - one has only so many pockets. (although women might not have that problem).

The question is what system: Windows, Palm or Symbian. Personally I had very bad experiences with my IPaq Windows PDA (sold it); PalmOS was pretty neat and I haven't many complaints about Symbian.
