Just watching ALIENS on TNT..why did they bleep certain curse words?

I was just channel surfing when I saw ALIENS on TNT. I have the DVD but I decided to watch a few minutes. This is right after the marines are revived and are eating in their mess area. One marine says "I'd sure like to get some of that alien poontang", but they cut the word poontang. A few minutes later the marine looie is briefing his troops when one marine asks "How do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?" No bleeps! The marine sargeant replies "You secure that shit!" but they bleep the word shit! Later the sarge says "Okay people you know the drill; assholes and elbows!" No bleeps!

So they allow assholes and chickenshit but bleep shit and poontang!

I'm very confused...

1. it's a very strange edit

i've seen that version before. it's a very weird edit. technically of course since it's on cable, they could allow cursing, so why they choose to edit certain words and not all of them is weird!

6. Because it's computerised, of course...

The software is keyed to locate and bleep a list of word sfom a list, based on phonetics. A word like "chickenshit" can sneak through if it's said quickly enough, because the 'shit' part is too muddled for the software to detect.

Of course, the FCC is on this "decency" trip right now, and it's ridiculous. God, I wish that this place was as openminded as Europe. I'm so sick of this country freaking out about sex and nudity. Know why these kids are having sex? BECAUSE YOU FREAKING FREEPERS MAKE SUCH A HUGE FUCKING DEAL ABOUT IT!!

For some reason, when Apocalypse nOw was first broadcast on network TV (ABC), the word "malaria" was deleted from one of Kurtz' monologues.
