I just went into my first structure fire!
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 09:02 PM by PittPoliSci
Well, it wasn't really that on fire...just a transformer inside a factory. But still it was quite a rush. Thankfully nobody was hurt and there was little damage.

*on edit*

Here's a picture of me from a few weeks ago at a scene that thankfully I didn't have to go into. I took the picture after everything was declared safe, don't fret! :-)

9. GASP! Fourteen? What do they allow you to do at fourteen?
Surely they didn't put you in any dangerous conditions?

10. no not at all.
You stick to doing really safe stuff, like assisting pump operators and occassionally directing traffic. You're mostly there for the fundraising and the fun. You change air tanks at scenes, you really don't get to do anything dangerous at all.

I was driving down the highway today, and a car was on fire on the side of the road.

The firefighters came and put it out.

Great people, and my cousin is also a fire fighter.

How many firefighters do you know would you say are for Kerry, and how many for Bush?

16. at my haggard backwoods department...
All but like 3 or 4 are for Kerry.

Of those 3 or 4...

One is in the guard, doesn't care about Kerry's war record
One is my age, and is just a selfish ass, but I doubt he'll actually vote for Bush.
One is an imbecile who does what he is told, so I've been telling him to vote for Kerry and why Bush hates firefighters.

Everyone else for the most part dislikes the Shrub with a passion.

I remember some dumb republican telling me at my school once that the firefighters "unions" support Kerry, not the actually firefighters. I said "are you a firefighter?" He said "no." So I continued "well I am, and pretty much all of my fellow firefighters hate Bush. We're not paid, either, like the unions. I'm sure the paid ones feel exactly the same." He shut up after that. It was the biggest bitch-slap I ever offered someone in front of a class full of people, cause I said it with the most passion I have ever had about an issue in my life.

17. So your dept. is in a rural area?
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 09:22 PM by DaveSZ
That's encouraging if true.

I also saw a Chevy suburban today with a "firefighters for Bush" bumpersticker.

Of course I'm in Texas, so...

:(

I was on the fence about Kerry, but after reading this, I damn well hope he wins:

22. which cat is that?
;) (insert various feline jokes here)

Well, Tai Chi is the superior martial art... I hear ladies like swords, too. Well, I do. I like swords when they are brandished, by me. It was cool doing a little sword today, I don't practice as much as I should.

You'd have to see if it was a real Tai Chi place, most of the storefront ones don't really teach the real thing, according to my teacher. But then he thinks Yang style short form is really the only way to go.
