1. because apparent.y MSRNC has been taking a lot of flack
not to mention losing market share with the RW scumbags. They are trying a liberal like John McEnroe for balance,or ratings

3. Donahue was fine if you compare him with Miller
he was too old looking for the demo they seek to attract. I think they are hoping for another Bob Costas. Younger, better looking.

4. Actually, I believe Donahue was one of their most highly
rated shows, making its cancellation all the more inexplicable.

6. No...
actually he did get good ratings, but there was a memo that said the show might offend the more "patriotic" viewers.

7. Well, it's a bit of a mix. Donahue's show lost the ratings battle

compared to other shows on at the same time, but it was MSNBC's highest show, which is what I wrote in my earlier post.

While the official announcement wasn't a surprise to anyone working at the network, MSNBC officially canceled the primetime show "Donahue" on Tuesday, citing disappointing ratings.

While "Donahue" does badly trail both O'Reilly and CNN's Connie Chung in the ratings, those numbers have improved in recent weeks. So much so that the program is the top-rated show on MSNBC, beating even the highly promoted "Hardball With Chris Matthews."

8. The format for "Donahue" was all wrong.
They had him behind a desk talking to his guests at first. They SHOULD have had Donahue with a studio audience, with audience members allowed to ask questions of the guests. That's a format Phil has always excelled in and feels comfortable. I think the ratings would have been much better with that format.

9. my favorite memory from his show
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 07:59 AM by BigMcLargehuge
was telling the audience that Ann Coulter's book was a perfect read if you were by a roaring fire, so you could throw it in. Meanwhile she is sitting across the desk and glowering at him. When they came back for the next segment, she was gone, gone, gone. Stripped her mic off and split in a huff.

I loved it, it was ALMOST as good as Chris Rock asking her if she was "fucking the President or something" on the first episode of Bill Mahers HBO show.

I was, I guess, one of the people who watched Donahue at least a couple of times a week while it had it's MSNBC run. And to be honest, I miss the guy.

I wonder how he'd do on Air America, I bet the talk radio format would suit him.

10. What a great idea! "Paging Al Franken, Paging Al Franken"
I think Phil Donahue on Air America would be a nice fit for both.

I wish I could have seen the Ann Coulter segement. That would have been lots of fun. :-)
