2. Eric Alterman will want to smite me...
but I think that "Born to Run" is a tremendous song, but the rest of that album is a bore.

20. Their early albums, yeah
Great hit singles but lots of pointless filler on their early albums. The "At Your Birthday Party" album was a mess. "Steppenwolf The Second" wasn't much better despite a few great songs like "Don't Step on the Grass Sam" and "Magic Carpet Ride".

Their later albums though, from roughly "Monster" thru "Slow Flux", *are* good albums. Consistently so, I might add. They get overlooked which is too bad.

12. As much as this goth boy hates to admit
You're right. I usually only liked a few songs off each cd.

5. Two spring to mind...
Although others can certainly disagree, since I freely admit I don't have the most sophisticated musical ear.

Brick by the Ben Folds Five was a great song -- I still love it -- but I bought the album and found the rest of it unlistenable.

What's It's Like by Everlast was the same way, but Everlast was a former hip-hop guy (of House of Pain fame) so that song wasn't typical of his normal body of work.

6. Which Seeds albums?
They're uneven, but they have a much higher ratio of listenable songs in their opus than ... oh, name somebody! Than a lot of crap these youngsters are listening today! ;)

15. Oh sure they're still worth a listen
I guess by crappy I mean crappy by comparison the standard of the singles. Sorry for not defining my terms here.

9. Green Jello!
Cereal Killers!

That was actually a fun album -- OK, it was fun riding through the bank drive-through shreiking "whip me teenage babe" at the top of my lungs. (I was 17...what did you expect...)

10. Wasn't that "Screaming Blue Messiahs???"
I saw them open for the Cramps back in '86 in Montreal one summer when I was thumbing through Canada...they were fun!

They were a fun act, but that one cd only had one good song on it.

8. How about: Catchy single, hideous album?
"All I wanna do is to thank you/even though I don't know who you are/you let me change lanes/while I was riding in my car...."

That was an earworm for me, most of (fall 1997? around there). Finally, my then BF/now H bought me the CD. (Geggy Tah, I believe the group was called.)

Bile. Crap. Overprocessed pablum. Not that the single wasn't -- but it was fun. And catchy.
The rest of the album just sucked.

21. Same applies to the Bumblebeez 81 CD.
One catchy song, "Pony Ride," the rest of the disc was dreck. I sold it 3 weeks later.

22. Todd Rundgren
Since you mentioned the Nazz...

Todd Rundgren's singles are great stuff, but man most of his albums are *way out there*. Never could figure out the point of him putting one or two great pop songs on each album, but some annoying noodling to fill out those albums.

Come On Eileen is one of the best songs of the 80s, but that album is pretty substandard

And PRV had a decent single with that BB King sample, but the album was a bore

26. Disagree on The Nazz
At least if it's the self-titled album you're referring to (that's the only one I've heard). I love "See What You Can Be", "Back of Your Mind"... "Open My Eyes" was only a b-side and it's totally awesome. I'd give the album at least a four out of five; not perfect, but not crappy either.

I'm sure there are plenty of artists that fit the bill, but I'm one who tends to find at least something to like about most albums if I listen to them enough.
