it's boring out here on the perimeter, and dark and scary too. who do i have to screw to get on the next train toward the shiny, hip center of the milky way?

7. Our sun will never go supernova.

It's not nearly massive enough. And unless you plan on sticking around five billion years you won't have to worry about a regular old fashioned nova either.

10. thanks dr. weird, i feel a little better
but still, the universe is so very large, and the residual echo of the supposed big old bang is still giving me agita.

20. In about 5 billion years our sun will become a red giant and
could expand enough to become bigger than the orbit of the earth (so we probably should think about finding more hospitable digs by then, but we have plenty of time). :-)

33. Our sun doesn't have enough mass for that to happen.

The regular nova will occur in 5 billion to 5.5 billion years.

26. Mopaul, you just don't understand that the center of the
Universe is not necessarily the center of the galaxy. In astronomical terms we are actually not very far from it. The geometric center of the Universe is not precisely defined, but certainly lies somewhere between Pat Robertson's house and the home of God's very own spokesman, little George. Just ask either one of them.

32. Stars don't last long in there.
They're born, then they quickly die. In the so-called "suburbs" of our galaxy, where we are, stars can live for 10 billion years (like the lifespan of our star), therefore being able to systain life in their orbiting planets.
